Nodules on thyroid

by smilie106, Sep 15, 2009 05:54PM
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid,I am on levothyroxine 100mcg which makes me feel alot better but recently i noticed problems swallowing. My doctor ordered an ultrasound which showed that i had nodules on my thyroid one of which is larger than 3mm so I was told I had to have it biopsied.I went for my biopsy last week and for 1),it was very painful...They did 3 needles and then told me I was done and that they had enough.2)Come to find out They hardly had anything at all and my results came back inconclusive due to not having enough cells.I have to reschedule another biopsy..is there anyone that can give me some recommendations to get me through the biopsy? They did give me a shot of litacane (sp?) which did not do anything for me...i could still feel the needle going in,that didnt bother me- it was when they were poking the nodule that caused sharp shooting pains.Any suggestions or any help at all will be greatly appreciated!

Question: Do you have Hashimoto's? It is the main cause of hypothryoidism and it also causes multi-nodular goiter.

Not that it matters much now that you are on the levo, but I was just wondering if you've ever had your antibody tests. People with Hashi commonly have these nodules. It is good to keep an eye on them, though.

Next, who is giving this biopsy? Your endo? My endo first put some topical pain killer on my neck and then gave me the pain shot. Also, ask if you can take a Tylenol III or Percocet before going in. Somebody will need to drive you home, but you'll be a lot happier.

I am not sure If I have Hashimoto's,I do not believe I have been tested for it.My doctor is not very detail oriented when I get my results. My endo doctor is the one that is giving me the biopsy,he was the one that did it the last time as well.I will ask my doctor for an antibody test. Thanks for your help!
