OT: Think it's time to go have my heart checked

by skymax2000, Sep 03, 2007 08:08PM
by a cardiologist. My thyroid tests have been normal since July and I no longer have hyperthyroid symptoms like fast heart, carpel tunnel, extreme fatigue, hair dry, brittle, and falling out, etc. I do have insomnia and take Xanax and Trazadone. And any depression I did have got kicked in the
b-u-t-t. However, my heart still pounds out of my chest (not fast) and feels irregular when I'm lying down or have to move upwards. For example, I can run on a treadmill but doing lunges makes me dizzy and I see white spots. So does stretching my hands over my head. I had an abnormal ECG in April which my endo wasn't concerned about. And my pychiatrist wasn't concerned about it even though the package label for Trazadone says I should tell him about any heart condition. I told him I thought Trazadone was aggravating my pre-existing heart condition. He didn't think so. Oh, and sometimes when I'm lying down, I feel like I can't breathe. I've learned from waiting so long to be diagnosed with Graves that I'm going to get a cardiologist appointment tommorrow. My instinct is telling me so and I had dreams about my heart stopping and that I need to wake up.

I have hashimoto's hypothyroid, and also have a pounding, racing heart. It usually happens when I lye down for a while,  and/or if I'm laying down and then move or get up my heart will start to pound and race!!! I'm hypo, and my heart pounding/racing was much worse when my tsh was 11. My tsh is now 5.3 and it's still happening but not as intense or as often. I also have carpal tunnel. I was told being hypo can induce it.   I don't have any anxiety or reason for heart problem (that I'm aware of) The only med I take is 75mcg synthroid and 30mg prevacid (for reflux/GERD). -- I'm also considering seeing a cardiologist. I'm female, 40 and have never been diagnosed with a heart problem, so I'm assuming thyroid (both hyper and hypo) can cause this problem.-- Hope you feel better soon!!

Sounds like a good idea to me to be seen by a cardiologist.  Since you have a preexisting heart condition, don't mess around with it!  Would think that knowing you had a heart condition they would not have put you on a med that would aggravate it.  Why they would do that, I can't imagine.

Am praying that all is okay with your heart and maybe just a change in meds needed.

Hi there I also have very strong heart beats kind of irregular,I had them when I was hyper and hypo.   Usually at rest or going form being really busy to not moving.   I had a full cardio workup and they found I had a moderate mitral valve leak when they did echo.,normal ecg ekg.   May  people that have thyroid issues have it .  Mary shonnom a thyroid patient advocate and  author  said she has it too.  I know others as well.  I am 39 and I found this out last year,I was very scared.  My cardio is doing an echo every year to keep an eye on things ,right now it is not affecting the size of my heart or it's function,so she feels it is very minor,I do not have a murmur either they usually look for thatJust need to be on antibiotics befor dental work to fight off any infection that could affect my heart. If  need be when I am a little older I will have to have it repaired ,but many people never have to have anything done about it,or  have it done without any problem.  Two symptom  of mpv is dizziness and palp's but they are also symptoms of thyroid disorder too!! better to get it checked out anyway, better to be safe.

LJ39 Any questions lert me know
