OTC remedies for hypothyroid

Has anyone had any success with over the counter thyroid medications / herbals / vitamins?    I am on synthroid already for hypothyroid but my levels vary and I do not believe I always am on the correct dosage.  I suffer from facial edema and edema of the extremeties and am always looking for something to help with swelling.  Any suggestions anyone, please?   I have heard taurine helps but have not seen it at my local pharmacy.

I believe taurine is a common ingredient in the energy drinks.

thanks for the comment - I was kind of suspecting that there's not much out there :-)   Think you're right about the dosage, though, I will have to go get that checked.  Take care and happy easter!

There really isn't anything natural that can take the place of thyroid hormone.  Sounds like you probably need your dosage changed, b/c you're probably hypo.  Until your TSH is around 1.0 you will probably have all the hypo symptoms.  You might also benefit from a different kind of thyroid if this one just isn't working for you.
