I was wanting to know how many people suffer from other autoimmune diseases other than thyroid. Please vote for which other ones you have. If you don't find a match for what you have pleaSe choose other and then leave a post as to what you have. THANKS!!!
I suffer from Crohns disease, was actually told today that some of my symptoms
could have been caused by the many steroids I`ve had to take over the yrs to
help this.
To my knowledge and testing done, I have no other Autoimmune Diseases .....BUT...
I am allergic to Mother In Laws lol.
OOOpps soz.....just meant that I dont intend getting married a 2nd time :)
I have vitiliago. Have had for for 12+ years. It came long before my Hashi's, which is just diagnosed. It does not cause me any trouble as I am very fairFair skin cancer risks skinned and it is hard to see it.
Like beacon800, I too have vitiligo. I am Caucasian but 'light' skinned. So you can see it, more noticeable in the summer, as it does not tan at all!. This and fatigue was what made my doctor test me for hashimotos ten years ago! It seems to spread when under months of stress.
I may be gluten intolerant at times as well. But I don't test positive for Celiac disease. (?)
There is some interesting new information that Celiac toxicity spread throughout the body leaking from the intestines (termed leaky gut) can possibly trigger many autoimmune issues including thyroid! So what came first with people that have both is interesting.
**I would like to hear more from people that have hoshimotos and celiac.**
My brother is confirmed Celiac and also has Hashimoto's. His thyroid problem came first... or rather, it was diagnosed first. He was first diagnosed with the hashi's as a sophomore in college after complaining of major fatigue and dysphoria. It was not until his first year of medical school that he really began to have the symptoms associated with celiac. However his blood retults did not test positive for the disease. In fact it was so severe for him that he has to insist that they do a biopsy of the small intestine and that is when they discovered that he does indeed have caliacs since his intestine villi were destroyed.
In reality it is difficult to say if the celiac issue CAUSED the thyroid issue for my brother because he was not having outward GI symptoms of celiac for many years after being diagnosed with hashi's.
As for me. I am not diagnosed as celiac, since my bloodwork came back negative and i have no had the biopsy. But I am more or less gluten free and I just feel like i feel better. I was diagnosed with hashimoto's in October 2008 and have been gluten free for 2 months now.
I do have a question for everyone now that we are discussing autoimmune diseases and thyroid...... Did any of you guys who have hashi's also have an ANA test? and if so what was your titer? Mine was 1:320 speckled. which is a VERY high amount and very positive. My Doctor is thinking that i might have another auto-immune disease in addition to my Hashi's... Any input would be great.
I have Hashimoto's and gluten intolerance. They are believing my severe anemia may be auto-immune too. I am convinced I have adrenal fatigue/failure but having a hard time getting believed. All my tests are low normal...so go figure!
I haved mixed connective tissue disease. 'unsure' what all it involves, but looks like lupus, arthritis, and another (where the fingers turn blue/white and lose feeling). I have to wait on the synthroid though as I am waiting on a nuclear test for the thyroid. Can someone tell me more on ciliac (SP?) disease? Thanks
Well have you seen 'Gluten free' food, it for people with Celiac. Wheat, four and rye have gluten. Some people cannot digest it properly. The body attacks the glutin in your intestines and your intestines itself (injure) - thus , gluten antibodies. The intestines can get porous from this termed ' leaky gut'. If this happens the 'toxic' gluten get get everywhere in the blood stream.
All kinds of digestive issues, fatigue and intestinal pain can result. Usually the first symptom is bloating for what appears to be no reason. So, no wheat, rye or flour products make you feel better.

C~
I have been told I must have another autoimmune disease because the body temperature on my left is always 0.5 degree colder than my right and I have one pupil that occasionally is larger than the other.... any ideas? Do you have another autoimmune disease? I am thinking though my hypothyroidism is secondary to a Hypothalamic Dysfunction ... I see more Drs in the next few weeks.

I only ask because my brother and i both test negative for the caliac anitibodies tests but his was confirmed though a biopsy....
if you are intolerant will it still destroy your intestines, or are the symptoms more like food allergies or what?
Thanks! I'm super interested in this topic since it applies to my family! :)
