Over weight ?? Think its Thyroid related ?

by TOLD YOU, Sep 17, 2007 04:16PM
Just how many of us are Over weight ??   I mean really over weight not just like 10 lbs....LOL..I am pretty over weight no I am not proud of it.  Do you think it is from your thyroid ?

I have tried I only drink diet drinks, stopped eating sweets and things like that, I dont care to much for candy and stuff anyway.  So I really think my thyroid had something to do with it.  Now that it is out, I hope to do better.

I am not asking what you weigh or anything, just wondering if anyone is REALLY over weight like me ??

Thanks

I am probably a good 50 pounds overweight, but have always struggled with my weight, so I don't think I can totally blame my thyroid.  Back in the really hyper days, I had lost about 20 pounds in a few months, but the anti-thyroid drugs fixed my thyroid before my appetite caught up, and I put it all back on pretty quickly.  Then, after TT last spring, I was slightly hypo and gained some more.  I have been successful in losing about 10 pounds since then - healthier eating (note healthier, but probably not what a lot of folks would consider healthy) and lots of excercise - daily bike rides in the summer, step aerobics 3 times/week in the winter.

I have given up ever being thin.  The only time in my adult life when I was thin was when I was running 3-4 miles per day.  I just don't want to get back into that kind of shape any more - if only there was some magical way!  I have been told by some medical professionals that without a thyroid, you have to work much harder to lose weight.  It at least makes me feel better!

Maybe it is our southern food, lol!!!  Well I had a baby in Dec. 2005, and since then I have gained 20 pounds from my post-baby weight.  From my pre-baby weight I am up 35 pounds to 158 pounds.  I too have dieted and do moderate exercise...walking, cardio, etc, but the weight will not come off.  I almost cried the other day because I saw an old co-worker that hasn't seen me since 2004 and the first thing she said was how much weight I have put on.  So *D*-I know I talked to you yesterday and I got an appointment tomorrow and will probably have the blood work done and maybe an ultrasound.  Since you are my MS thyroid buddy, I will let you know what the doc says, maybe you can give me some advice/guidance on what to expect???  Thanks, Liz

I just wanted to say that was really rude of your co-worker to say something like that!!  It's not like those of us who struggle with our weight don't KNOW we've put it on without someone like HER telling us.  Cripe.  Ticks me off.

And yes, I've struggled with my weight my whole life as well, so I can't really blame it on my thyroid - although I'd like to!  :-)

I know that I would like to lose around 70 lbs..my ENDO told me I should lose around 2lbs a week and it would require excerise and 1500 calorie a day diet. she gave me a website as I pre-diabetic due to my weight. www.yourweight.com and it helps guide you. Good Luck..Pam
