Palps After 9 Years

by ckannon, Mar 18, 2009 07:41PM
Hello,

After being diagnosed hyperthyroid with a large thyroid nodule (benign) in the late 90's I underwent radioactive iodine treatment, followed by a partial lobectomy. Since shortly after I have taken synthroid of varying doses until my levels stabilized and I was on the same dose for a few years. Recently (a few weeks ago) I started experiencing strong palpitations and that 'jittery' feeling again. I noticed them most a few hours after taking my daily synthroid of 175mcg. I stopped the synthroid on Friday because the palpitations were too intense. They subsided over the weekend and by monday when I went to see the doctor were almost gone. My doctor said my TSH was a little suppressed after checking my bloodwork taken monday (although I neglected to get the exact number). My doc lowered the dosage of synthroid to 150mcg. About 4 hours after taking my first dosage since Friday today, my palpitations were back with a vengence. Is this a 'rebound' effect? Should I continue at the dosage I was prescribed or ramp up from 75mcg or so? I'm worried and am thinking of going back to see the doctor tomorrow.
