Pappilary Thryoid Cancer- can I wait a year to take RAI

I had a miscarriage (1st pregnancy) last Jan found out I was hypothyroid.  Started on Synthroid and was advised to wait until my TSH levels were healthy before trying to get pregnant again.  Had thyroid ultrasound followed by biopsy in Aug confirmed I had papillary cancer. Neck scan and 2nd biopsy found cancer in one lymph node.  My thyroid and some nearby lymph nodes were removed 9/8/10.  Pathology report;  Oncocytic variant (1.4cm in greatest dimension). Tumor is multifocal, present in both right and left lobes but contained. No lymphovascular invasion. One lymph node had metastatic papillary cancer. Surgeon recommends I take RAI now and body scan to check for metastases (possibly remove more lymph nodes).  He understands that I would like to have a baby and is giving me the option to try to get pregnant now & wait for a year before taking RAI.  I am 38.  I cannot find any info to help with this decision.  What are the pros/cons in waiting?  Risk factors?  Please answer & provide links with more info/statistics if possible.

I agree with Stella, metastatic means it has metastisized, usually thyroid cancer metastisizes to the lungs and bones, not good places for spread...If you did get pregnant, then you will have at least one year of that going through the rest of your body, I wouldn't take that chance.  I know that having a baby is a huge thing, and adoption doesn't seem like the best option, but it is always an option.  At 3 in the morning when the little buggar wakes you up, you won't be thinking of where that baby came from!  You will just love him/her.  Good luck, I wouldn't wish this decision on anyone.

on the diagnoises of  metastases - regardless of it being pap cancer you can not wait to have the RAI.

Your better to wait to get pregnant then to wait with this RAI. Schedule it.
