Parathyroid and Thyroid Surgery

I had parathyroid adenoma that was diagnosed by a sestamibi scan in August 2009. I had surgery to remove it. September and the nodule had returned and was both cystic and solid. In October of 2010 I had a follow-up ultrasound and the nodule was more solid and had changed.,11mm, I was scheduled for an fna. The fna was indeterminant. A second fna was also inderterminant. My doctor decided to do a left thyroid lobectomy. My concern is my right thyroid which had nodules also but no single large nodule. Will I have to take hormone meds? Will I need more surgery? My calcium is ok. Is it normal to have parathyroid surgery and then thyroid surgery? My TSH is .90, my calcium is 1.14.

Ginwoo,

Something confused me about your post. You said "my calcium is ok" Then you said "my calcium is 1.14.

What country are you in? I ask because I'm wondering if that's a misprint or if you're using a different reference range scale than mine. I'm in the US. The calcium range listed on my lab says between 8 and 10 or so is normal; 1.14 would not be normal if that is the range. But it could be normal if the scale they're using is different. Either the doctors office or the lab would be able to answer that question.

Can you double check that?

Not sure how common the recurrence of nodules is. You can always request a second opinion before someone slices stuff out of you; most doctors don't get offended by the request...they have heard it before.
