Parotid, saliva gland swallen 6 month after RAI.

by SVETA, Jun 19, 2007 12:23PM
Please tell me if somebody have very painfull parotid, saliva glands which are  swallen after tt and RAi due to thyroid cancer?  It is very painful and feels like it is blocking my throat. I went to ENT doctor, even to ER for that and they said it is side effect from RAI treatment and can be permanent. It comes and goes. But last couple of days--it stays. Pain killers don't help.
Thanks for your support and ideas.

I have that off and on all the time and just thought it was some kind of allergy.  Who knew?  I take anti inflammatories  like Motrin and drink lots of cold drinks and suck on popsick

ME TOO!!! I have had three RAI treatments now.  It is so bad and no matter what I do it is swollen and painful, especially when I eat anything really salty or sour.  I went to an ENT too and he said, warm compresses, sour candy and to stay over hydrated.  Mine is exactly the same.  I wish I had good advice, but just someone to vent with. I know it is not fun, but during that time lots of liquids and bland foods really help.  My doctor gave me an antibiotic for my most recent flare because it lasted over a week and it was an infection.  Hang in there, you are not alone.

To: OOPS! Don't know what happened.
popsicles to get some relief.  Will have to write that on my list for my endo.  PCP was stumped by this also and assumed it was some kind of allergy.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, but thank you for the info.  Will let you know if I find anything out from endo.
