I just had my left side of thyroid removed on 1-7.  I didn't have any problems with my voice.  Actually, I really feel pretty good.  I was a little tired over the weekend, but nothing major.  I don't know about the scar yet, because I still have steri-strips covering it until my appointment on Thursday.  I think the scar will be a noticable for a few months, but fades pretty well in time.  I was very worried about the scar and still am to a point, but am glad that the surgery is done.  I had my surgery done by an ENT at the hospital I work at in Nebraska, so I can't answer about the hospital in your town.  If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help.

The scarring is always a concern to any thryoid patient. I had two surgeries so I was even more worried at the second one making me look like Frankenstein's Bride...but after one year it is fading nicely.
As you don't normally get stitches externally anymore, you get either steristrips (little butterfly shaped very sticky strips to hold the wound closed) or a type of cling wrap and cotton wool. I had both!
Are you having trouble with the left side? Is it causing you any trouble swallowing or breathing? Usually most doctors will leave it alone unless it is causing that kind of problem from being enlarged.
You might be a little husky after surgery, usually that is because the intubation tube can graze the vocal chords. If you must have surgery, make sure the surgeon has done more than 100 surgeries, ask if they have ever had problems with the laryngeal nerve which can be affected to cause voice problems, Hopefully their answer will be that they have never had a patient with this problem!
I am in Australia so can't give you any information on Brampton Hospital.
Good luck!
