Please HELP!!! 3 wks of sore, itchy nipples

I have hashi's disease, low thyroid posted on here before. Dr first put me on Synthroid 2 months ago, and then added cytomel 3 weeks ago. I FEEL GREAT!!!!!!! but........ sore, sensitive and itchy nipples on both breasts slightly pinker on the outside not much. I have looked all over the web, cannot find anything but Pagets. Called pharmacy, they said not usual side effect to medicine. Does anyone else have this?? I am worried and I do not want to go off the cytomel, it has helped me tremendously. Can the thyroid meds be stimulating my other hormones like estrogen or progesterone?

Yes, I believe there is a connection between the thyroid medication and itching of a nipple. I went on Armour Thyroid, a very low dose years ago and for the first time one nipple starting itching and drove me crazy.  Over the years if I have increased thyroid it has happened. Now I am taking Iodine to heal my thyroid and start to lower my dosage of medication.  I'm going through tremendous itching right now, it's driving me crazy!  It's only one breast but I think it's a sign it's time to lower my medication again. I don't know if it stimulates estrogen or progesterone production, but I have a holistic MD and I'm going to ask her.

Thank you for responding,
it last 4 weeks and now it is gone. I think it may have been some sort of reaction as it started right after they put me on the cytomel. Not really sure. but thank you.

I have never heard of it causing that kind of problem. Are you sure you didn't buy a new bra, change your laundry powder, anything like that? The only time I had sore nipples that itched was when I was pregnant. Not that i am saying you are! The meds can't change the female hormones. The pituitary gland can though, and might be worth getting that checked.
