Post Lobe Thyroidectomy question

I notice the more I try to get back into the swing of things the more I move the more my neck swells. I went for a walk 1 3/4 miles today trying to get back into some modest exercise and "BAM" my neck swelled and it's a discomfort. Can anyone tell me how long after surgery this will stop? Maybe I'm being impatient it's only been 6 days but I worked so hard to keep my weight down and don't want to gain because of this darn surgery. Surgeon said do what ever I feel like... I'm glad I didn't Jog like I normally do. Anyone?

It takes quite some time for the trauma to rid itself inside from the surgery.  I am so sorry this is happening .. may be your body's way of asking to take it a wee bit slower maybe.
There are oodles of internal stitches that take 6+ weeks to heal inside.  It will get better . it takes some time.

Okay! I'm just not sure why this surgeon would tell me do whatever I felt like doing because by the end of the day my throat felt swelled like the first day out from surgery. I go back to him tomorrow I'm going to let him know I'm glad I didn't jog I probably would have closed shut :O LOL!

Thank you both for you answers it's nice to have someone who has been down this road before! Juli

Six days is pretty quick.  Ice that neck as much as possible (I liked to fall asleep with an ice pack on my neck - it helped).  The ice will reduce swelling.  Avoid the chemical cold packs - go for regular ice packs.  My surgeon said as often as I liked.

Like you, I started walking about a week after surgery.  I didn't find it too difficult, but I also wasn't swing my arms and going quite as fast as I usually did.  Hold off on the jogging,  That may put more strain on your neck.  The healing is much longer on the inside. Good luck.
