Post TT Swelling

by thyroidbride, Mar 27, 2008 06:21PM
hi,

my question is kind of a vain one, but I had a TT a little over 2 weeks ago (3/11) and the area around my incision is still pretty puffy, it looks like a little bulge at the base of my throat.  My scar seems to be healing but the swelling doesn't seem to be changing much.  I am wondering how long it took for the swelling to go away for other people post surgery.  There is still some tightness when I turn my head, but I have no troube with swallowing and feel pretty good.

Thanks for any help.

I can't help with how long it takes for swelling to go down, because my surgery was the same day as yours. But I saw my surgeon today, and she says the swelling I have, which sounds a lot like yours, is a good thing. She says she'd be worried if I *didn't* have it. But she took off the Steristrips and told me it's time to start massaging vitamin E on the scar and that that will tell my body it can stop with the swelling now.

A good lotion to use is Glaxal Base. It is used on radiation patients and is good to use on your incision.

I had puffiness around my incision too after my TT which was 7 weeks ago.  I saw my Endo two weeks out from surgery and asked her about it.  She said it would go down eventually.   It is gone now.  I can't remember exactly what week it went away.  I think it was between the 4 & 5 week mark.  I had tightness turning my had for at least a month after surgery.  Glad to hear you are feeling good after your surgery!
