Hi! I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer with Tall Cell features in 10/06. I had a total thyroidectomy in 11/06 and 175 mCi of RAI in 2/07. I just had my 1 year follow-up RAI scan on 12/17/07 and my scan was clean and my blood work came back normalNormal saline flush. I am 29 years old and my husband and I would like to start trying to have a baby. I would like to know what the usual protocol is for this. Should I wait until my TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh level is supressed again before trying? Is it safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex to try after having a low dose scan? Should I wait until I have 2 clean scans and not just one?
My doctor would like me to have another scan in about a year from now. I fell like I have been given a window of opportunity to get pregnant now just in case my next scan does not come back clean and I have to have another treatment.
Thanks to any and all advice you can give me!
My sister had stage II papillary carcinoma and three RAI doses. She and her husband really wanted a baby and she finally conceived six months after her last dose. Today she has a beautiful, healthy 18-month old daughter. Talk to your endo but it does sound like you have a good window - check on the low dose though. I'm not sure how long before it comes out of your system but you will want to get the "okay" before you conceive.
I already had my surgery last Nov. '06 and RAI in Feb. '07. Since I had a clean follow-up RAI scan on 12/17/07, my husband and I were planning on trying to conceive before my next scheduled RAI scan in about a year from now.

Good luck to you and your husband!
Are you going for a surgery? Or you are going to start a family first?
Thanks
