I am 10 weeks pregnant. Had blood tests at week 9 and TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh came back at 20.5, but T4T4 test is normalNormal saline flush. I get that the TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh needs to be lowered but as long as me and baby are getting enough actual thyroid horomone is the high TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh really dangerous? Doc increased dose from 0.175 to 0.200 at conception as a precaution, and has now doubled my synthroid dose after these results and will re-test in 2 weeks. Have been hypo for 8 yrs. Had 1 successful birth, 1 miscarriage last year (TSH was 10 and T4 normal) and took a year to get preg again. Also, should drs. be looking for some other reason the TSH is so high?
from my understanding the High TSH means that your body thinks that it doesn't have enough T4 and needs more. So your doctor is right to increase your hormone dose.
My doctor looks as TSH and FT3 and FT4, but if TSH is high even if FT4 was ok he would increase meds. However, if FT3 and FT4 are low, and even if TSH is low he still increases thyroid meds. I am 6 1/2 months pregnant. My TSH is nearly always very low, but my FT3 and 4 have also been low and so my doc keeps adjusting my meds upwards.
So I think both TSH and FT4 are important in pregnancy. Yes, good your FT4 within normal range should be safer for baby even though you need the meds increased...
