Problems Concentrating

I was wondering if anyone else has extreme brain fog? I have been going through "something" for a while now, but I dont know exactly what it is. It feels like my head is cloudy, I feel off. I have never been slow, but I feel that way now. Its hard for my eyes to focus on things, and when I o outside wether it is sun or not my eyes seem get sensitive. I just feel like a total airhead most of the time and its very depressing, because I havent always been like this. I say things that i dont mean to say, its like my brain has a brain of its own and its not even giving me a chance to be apart of its process. I know that sounds strange! Can any one relate?

What a relief to find this page. Thought I was just feeling stupid and clumsy for 6 months. Diagnosed hyper (graves) and been on carbimazol for a month. Still feeling muzzy. Interestingly I also have too much iron in my blood. Doctor suspects Heamachromatosis.
Here's to us all getting fixed :P

Brain Fog was my psuedo name before RAI lol.
I had it shocking to the stage that some days I didnt even know what day it was, I had to write down that I had taken my anti-thyroid meds, it took me 4 trips to the shop one day to buy milk as I would forget what I went for each time!
I also put the dirty socks in the fridge and the milk in the laundry basket...alas a smelly fridge and laundry lol.
I think we have all had Brain Fog at some time or another and biy....it really knocks the 'thinking' mechanism for six !

Believe it or not I get that way when too hyper!!!!   I have to back down on my meds.  I get what I call word retrieval issues where I cannot grasp/think of the word I want to use.  For me, that's a huge clue my TSH is more hyper than I can handle!

I was beginning to wonder if I had been experiencing the onset of alzheimers!!!! I was diag. 15 years ago with hypo. I had gotten to the point to where I knew I had a lot to do but could not get my body to move. It was if it just shut down on me. That was when I got scared enough to go to the Dr. Once I started my meds I could not believe the turn around.  I found out almost to late how important my little bitty pill was after going through a rough marraige where I was constantly told that he knew for a fact that I did not have to have it. I did without it just long enough that when I went to the Dr., instead of listening, I was told if I had waited just one more week that there would have been no reason to seek a Dr.'s advise. My body was building toxins and my heart had began to swell. Now I am on 200mcg per day. The brain fog as you called it comes and goes but I know that those blood tests every 3 months are very important and so is eating right and plenty of exercise (walking in my case). I redused my dosage about two years ago by following that and the brain fog lifted too. Now I worry about menapause. I thought I might miss it but maybe not!!!

Oh, honey, welcome to the chicken club!!! =)  You want a good laugh about brain fogs go back to page 7 on 5/18 thread *IS IT FRIDAY YET?*  Then follow up on 5/19  *IT'S FRIDAY!*

I had Graves' which is hyper and brain fog didn't even seem to cover it!  I would just quit talking mid-sentence and never know I'd said anything!!  Just about drove everybody around me crazy.  They were constantly saying "And......?"
Good thing they quit expecting an answer!  I know it drives you absolutely insane while you're going through it but it will get better, I promise.  I can actually type these posts without having to stop and reread 8 times to figure out what it is I'm trying to say.

Nyxie, if you read this I'm still going back to that on these really tough days when it seems like there is nothing in the world to laugh at.  THANK YOU, DEARIE!!

I have to agree with Venora....the three weeks I was off my meds waiting for RAI was hypohell with major brainfog. The higher my TSH went, the worse my brain fog got.  My highest TSH was actually taken about 10 days after RAI and it was 42.  So I'm thinking my TSH was probably in the 50's or higher the day of RAI treatment.  I'm on enough levothyroxine for thyca suppression that my TSH is now in the hyper range.  So no more brain fog from hypothyroidism.....if I have it, I can blame it on starting menopause recently!

Oh My, Yes major fog.... Today was my first day back to work since surgery on 5-23-07.  I was so swamped and only my team leader knows my job and she was off 3 days last week for a funeral. My Dr. said start off slow 4 to 6 hrs a day because I have been having extreme tiredness.  Well, I stayed 7 and I was in such a fog when I left I barely remember driving home. Thank God I am only two miles away.  I came home and gave the kitties some love and fell alsleep for two hours.  I seem to be more alert in the mornings. My day starts at 2:45 am so by noon I am in lal la land.  Normally if I nap I feel better. Does this fog go away if my half of thyroid never starts working again and they put me on meds. I have a few more weeks before they test my blood to see if my thyroid started working. Thank You.. I wish you luck with the brain fog and hope it gets better.
