Prozac, Synthroid, Toprol and Graves Disease

It's been two years since my RAI treatment and my doctor put me on levothyroxin too soon.  I found myself having symptoms of  hyperthyroid so he lowered the dose to 50.  I was having stomach trouble with levothyroxin generic so I switched to Synthroid which made me feel better.  He also put me on Toprol for high blood pressure.  I was a mess and feeling very weak due to low appetite and constant stomach issues like IBS so went off Synthroid.  After a year and a half in October of 2011, I got tested and my TSH was slightly elevated at 13 so I went back on Synthroid 50 afterward.  Fast forward a few months and I began cutting Synthroid 50 in half and taking half everyday.  I also split Toprol 25 in two until I quit that medication.  Feeling depressed and tired all the time, I went to the free clinic to see what they could do.  The Nurse Practicianer without any hesitation prescribed to me prozac 20 mg.  I started taking Prozac everyday and felt some lifting of mood and energy.  Then over time I noticed hyperthyroid symptoms building up again.  So I quit the split Synthroid and am now only taking Prozac.  It's been several weeks and I'm showing no signs of hypo symptoms.  In fact, my hands are usually nice and warm and I feel stronger.  Even my stomach is improving remarkably.  I looked up on google and found that there is Serotonin in the gut, too.  Maybe they should do a study on Prozac and Graves Disease.  My anxiety is way down.  It may not be perfect, but relying more on my symptoms has saved me lots money on lab tests and doctor visits since I'm not insured.  Since I quit taking synthroid and toprol, sexual symptoms have improved.  Prozac can be rough on that but I think my body is getting used to it.  Knock on wood, I hope I don't go hypo too soon.  Thanks for reading!

All antidepressants have black box warnings of suicidal thoughts or actions. There are healthier alternatives to increase serotonin that do not have the adverse side effects.  Check out the article from Intergrative Psychiatry on Serotonin.
