Question about hyperthyroid

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid about 3 months ago...I am 55 years old...I was put on PTU and I had an ultrasound done on March 4th...the radiologist told me that I had a 1cm nodule on my left side of my thyroid...he said he would contact my doctor and I never did hear from her...within a week and a half, I decided to stop taking my medicine because I felt she was treating me for symptoms and not cause...I never did know what my levels were, but I was told they were off the chart....I come to this site daily and I have gotten so much information and am very grateful for that...since stopping the PTU, I have started to feel better and my blood pressure has gone way down...I do however feel completely exhausted all the time...I have no communication with my doctor and it bothers me that she never contacted me about my ultrasound results..she is leaving in a few months and I will be assigned a new doctor once she is gone...my real question here is this...my glands on the side of my neck are swollen and I am wondering if it's from my thyroid...I just found out I have a mass in my right breast and now I am wondering if all of this is related....I get an ultrasound done on my breast on the 7th....I feel very alone and confused....there are days that my hands really tremble, but I get thru it...the night sweats have diminished and I am unsure if I need to continue taking the PTU or what...can glands be swollen because of my thyroid?...any information would be greatly appreciated...thanks

Thank you for your advice. I know I should be in control of my own health, but it's hard for me to talk to my doctor. When I do ask a question, she blows me off. It's a military hospital that I go to and am unsure how I would even get my lab results. Thank you again for your feedback, I will go to the medical records department, I imagine I could find the results in there.

YES - you can have inflammation of the thyroid. And your glands can be swollen with thyroidtitis. Without you having a clear test result posting your number I can not for sure see if PTU's are really needed. If you say "off the chart" is the level - then I would assume PTU's are the right choice.

First I would call today and demand those tests! You need to obviously take control since your doctor will be leaving the pratice and you will "be assigned" a brand new person who as no clue about you and your symptoms.

As for the nodule - I would get that US scan information too. Look it over and inform yourself of the details listed. Most patients with thyroid conditions can develope nodules and they are nothing to worry about. Especially if you had no radiation - or previous cancer. Your age can alos be a sign of developing nodules. Regardless, something is there and needs to be watched.

I full anitbody and TSH panel is needed to see the whole picture of your condition. You should ask for all thyroid panels Free T's TSH TGab and TPO's especially with a mass on your breast present.
