RAI and scan question

I am questioning my drs protocol and frustrated...

Monday (today) and Tuesday thyrogen shot
Wednesday RAI
Friday Blood test (not sure what for yet)

I questioned the nurse today about when my scan would be....she claimed I was not having one???

Why would I not be having a scan? I really want one? Isn't that the purpose of the RAI to determine if any thyroid cells have spread or are remaining.

My history is: TT IN April papillary with follicular variant

Thanks in advance...

yes before I had my RAI i was off all meds no synthroid at all.  I didnt have to do the diet at all was give a high dose of RAI something like 103 I forget actually.  Was in quarantine for 3 days.  Left just fine.  Went a week later for my scan but still had too much radioactive in my body so had to go back a few days later.  Everything came out fine no cells anywhere.  Hospital for 3 days.

That mean that you did not stay on LID for Thyrogen injections and WBS for diagnostic purpose . Only when you had large dose of RAI and was in the hospital or home? Right? Thanks a lot for your comment.

I never did the LID only in the hospital while i was there in seclusion.  I have a scan a week later and it was still too soon.  So had to wait a few more days for the results.  Scan came back fine. I also had papillary cancer as well.

I didn't do my LID for my WBS (whith thyrojen injections) I asked my doctor and she said no, I hope she is right. My TSH 1 month ago was 0.03.

They told me basically just to stay away from kelp(yeah i was eating that by the fistful)but i stuck to the LID anyway. It seems like most of them arent to concerned about it but just that your TSH level is above 35 or 40.

Thank you for your response. Are you also doing the LID?
I am not. I was never told to and now worry that I should be doing it.
This is very frustrating..I want to trust what my dr says is best but I will certainly be questioning him today before I get the RAI.

In the past, it was routine to treat nearly all thyroid cancer patients with radioactive iodine after surgery. With the increasing realization that the prognosis for many patients with small differentiated tumors is excellent, there is a growing tendency to be more selective with respect to the extent of surgery and the need for radioactive iodine therapy.

I also had a thyrogen shot today and another tomorrow with uptake on wed followed by bloodtest and WBS on friday.I had TT in Dec o6 for follicular thyca followed by rai on dec 27th and first WBS on Jan 8th.Standard procedure is to do this at the 6 month mark and then every year. The blood test in for the tg(thyroglobun)level and tg antibodies as well as tsh and ft4 levels. From reading your post it looks like this is your first RAI treatment after surgery. Some get it as early as 2 weeks like me others wait several months it depends on the extent and size and type of cancer. They usually give you the WBS scan about 10 days after RAI.I dont know why the nurse told you that you would not be having a scan because that is standard procedure after RAI.
Good Luck and Good Health
