RAI side effects

Hello,

Has anyone else experienced a sore, swollen tongue and swollen and painful salivary glands after receiving RAI treatment?  My taste buds are really messed up as well.  I told my Endochrinologist about this and she says she's never heard of a swollen tongue as a side effect and told me it is unrelated.  I have never had a swollen tongue in my life.  She's making me feel like a freak!  Is there anyone out there who has experienced tongue problems?  If so, how long does it last?  When do the taste buds start to work again?  I had a dosage of 125 mCi, 10 days ago, and a thyroidectomy due to papillary thyroid cancer with tall cells.  I was also diagnosed with Breast cancer 3 years ago, and had a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery and I'm doing fine from that but this thyroid cancer has really thrown me because of the Hashimoto's and the depressed hypo state I'm in I'm finder this cancer harder to cope with.  And P.S.  .....If I hear one more time, especially from someone who hasn't even had one cancer diagnosis, never mind two, that this is "the good cancer" I'm going to scream.  Thanks for reading my rants.

I have both swollen tongue, mouth ulcers whe HYPO.
Also the sense of taste took a couple of months to come back but it did.
Are you on Synthroid yet?
You should have been prescribed Synthroid as soon as you left the Hospital as you no longer have the thyroid to produce these hormones.

I didn't have a swollen tongue, but I did lose my sense of taste for about four weeks.  I also have problems with my saliva glands which started 6 months after RAI.  I had swelling when eating, on one or both sides.  I  don't have swelling in the glands any more, but I don't produce enough saliva now, so eating dry foods is difficult.  Water on hand helps when eating bread or even chicken.  Ya, the "good cancer" is annoying. Good luck.
