Yeah, I'm 40 but the risk of a secondary cancer is increased for us now so I have annual mammograms and semiannual colonoscopies. Most fun I get all year. :-)
My cancer was 5mm so the size of yours may have made the difference in your dose. Or you just have a nuclear medicine doc who likes to watch the patients glow. :-)
My tumor was not that big--measured at 1.4cm on ultrasound in Dec. (with 2 much smaller nodules on the left side they didn't even measure or test), then my surgeon palpated and estimated 1.5cm in early Jan., and another radiologist measured it at 1.5 also in Jan., but the final path after surgery in Feb. measured it at 1.0 cm. I was stage I , 41 years old, in otherwise excellent health and had no other symptoms.....Since my initial scan showed no spread, I wonder why I had so large a dose? Wonder if my rad. onc. was freaked out by my Tchernobyl connection. She said she is confident that I am cancer-free now, but plans to sit on me to make sure I also do a mammogram annually, although not really necessary otherwise (just every 5 years for most...)
I am so sorry your dear sis is having such a time, and you, too. So much for this being a "good" cancer. Not if it's in your body!!
Hope you are having a beautiful spring good thyroid Monday!! :)
Could have been the size of your cancer. (How big was it again?)
My RAI was 100mCi. My baby sister's started at 100 then she had 150 then 175.
The reason my youngest sister had so much was her papillary carcinoma was Stage II with lymph node involvement. Her first scan showed uptake in her colon, all through her neck and chest lymph system, thyroid bed, breasts, and ovaries. Very scary. Her last scan showed only uptake in the thyroid bed. She's had such a rough go at it (and she is only 27 now). Last month she had spinal fusion and removal of a cyst from her spinal column. She's walking with a cane and dragging one foot while she chases down her beautiful (miracle) 12-month old.
It's unbelievable what some of us have gone through with this nasty cancer and our health falling apart.
I'm glad that your scan went so well and you are cancer free!!! None of us signed up for this now did we??
Glad you are feeling so well!! Did any of you have a mini-dose (3 mci) and 48 hours later a body scan, BEFORE your mega dose? I did, and the first scan showed no iodine uptake anywhere but the thyroid bed. Then, I was given my big dose, which sounds like I've got you all beat at 153.6 mci!!!! I guess that explains why I felt so crappy! That was 3 weeks ago, and I still have no sense of taste. My final scan, last Monday showed no spread either, but I am wondering why I had such a big dose.....?
It *is* kind of anticlimatic, isn't it? At least I had the excitement of setting off all the radiation detectors in the hospital as I was running for the exit! :-)
I had 100mCi. Still having the hotflashes 4 months later. Can the pool boys bring my drink on the rocks?? :-)
Hang in there and flush, flush, flush.
Hey there that is funny about the zapping the kids.I had 76mci.I feel pretty good just some heartburn ,I am back to feeling hot again .Oh well it was nice to be cold while it lasted.
Love venora

Glad to hear you are doing ok...this too shall pass...you've got to think positive...one day, we will all be feeling better! Seven days till I can have that drink on the beach!
Glad to hear you're being a trooper as always! You have a way to make us smile even when you're having a bit of a time yourself. Blass your heart for that!
I just have one request about the men in swimsuits serving drinks- can they NOT be wearing speedo's?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just recently saw the movie Borat and um his speedo was soooooooooooooo not attractive!!!!!
Wishing you the best~
Yeah, I felt the same way when I did my RAI 2 weeks ago. I kepts going to the kids and showing my finger like I was going to zap them if they acted up! hahahaha
I go in for my body scan on Monday! Hope it turns out clean!!
What was your Dose? I had approx 30 mci.
Cheers,
Scott
So glad to hear you are feeling well and no yucky side-effects. You are very fortunate to be able to stay at home during RAI. I will be staying in hospital for 48 hrs. but I am looking at it as a holiday!
Love the holiday idea..........especially the men serving drinks! LOL....
Best of luck to you for the remainder of your time flushing the pill out.
