Raised dose today, is is too soon to feel a difference?

by dani2776, Sep 04, 2009 10:12AM
Ok I raised my dose today from 37.5mcg to 44mcg.  My question is, is it too soon to feel it?  I am having moments where I feel like sombody has injected 60 pots of coffee into me and it's not a good feeling.  I also am a little sweaty and heart feels like it is racing although when I check it it's only around 84 which is higher than where it has been at 60-70's.  These feelings don't last long but just come and go.  Is this possible from the increase or is it just my lovely thyroid anxiety????

Both lol.

It is normal to feel a little edgy and also feel hot bursts when you increase a dose.
By day 3..they will have subsided.'
I know when I had to stop my T4 for 4 days then restart, I too felt edgy but once I swallowed the damn thing , I was ok.
Its the same as when you are told to stop meds (med induced hyper). you get into a habit of taking it so much that when you dont take it...you feel edgy to.

Just allow a bit of time for your body to ajust to the increase.
Your doing fine Dani :)
Let us know how you go.

I just increased my dose from 0.1 to 0.112 four days ago.  I felt fine the first two nights but the last two I have felt awful.  I have woken up in the middle of the night and had to call my mom to come over b/c I felt like I might pass out (I'm a single mom).  My doc thinks I may have hashimoto's as well.  I feel cold, clammy, super tired but can't sleep, I feel shaky but I'm not physically shaking.  I also feel like I have been injected with coffee.  I'm having heart palpitations..they come and go.  I feel like I'm going to throw up.  This is awful!  I think I am going to go back on my old dose...I was always tired but never felt like I might need to be rushed to the hospital at any moment.  I actually came across your post while googling side effects of being over medicated to see if it is normal.  It has actually made me feel better to know I'm not the only one going through this...

Sorry to hear you are batteling it too.  This is definately no fun.  I too feel like I am going to throw up and everything else you mentioned too.  Problem is if we DON'T increase we are just going to feel worse without enough medication.  I am a far way from being on the right dose but am VERY sensitive to all meds so I have no choice but to go slow.  Oh the lovely things brought on by the thyroid ;-)

Word of advice for both of you.
Do you know that if your levels are 'out of whack' and that you DO need an increase, that taking a small amount of a beta blocker for a few days can help the '240 volts ' going through you?
I had to take them for a few days last week as I went med induced HYPER.
Heart racing, sweating...felt shocking.
As I am super drug sensitive, I remembed back to the post RAI days when I was hyper and I cut a beta blocker into 4 and took the 4 1/4's spaced out during the day on my Docs advice.
When I first started on beta blockers 2 years ago..I swallowed a whole table (20mg) and felt like I was 'off my face'.
I havent needed them up until last week so I did as I just said....took 1/4 4 times a day for 2 days and its slowed the heartrate down, got rid of the severe anxiety and the hot flashes too.
Ask your Doctor about a beta blocker to take when needed.
They cut down the strong effects that the FT3 give you when you increase.

I do have a beta blocker but to be honest I am too afraid to take it.  When you increased your meds did you ever go really slowly like maybe increased dose one day and then old dose the next?  I thought maybe it I alternated days it would help me a little.  I don't know but with 4 kids I can't stand the thought of feeling like that until I get use to it.  Oh what to do, what to do!
