Rant and advice needed plz

I have been on Levothyroxine for 14 months now and I have been having marriage problems at the moment so the last thing on my mind has been my health.  Anyway a week ago I realised I had 3 days worth of medication left so I went to my doctors to ask for a repeat prescription only to be told by the receptionist I had not had my review with the doctor so I saw him and he only gave me a prescription for a weeks supply!.  I had an appointment with my doctor booked and I had my blood test and my appointment was for 13 May.

I arrived at the doctors and was told by the receptionist that the doctor is not here, he had a family emergency so I asked to see another doctor and she said he was fully booked up.  I tried to get in with another doctor and she refused.  I asked her about what I could do as I will have run out of medication on Monday and she said that I was only on 75 mcg so it doesn't matter.  I asked her her name and she refused to give it.  What am I going to do without my medication?

Most pharmacist will do something and call for you or get one of them on call to get you your medication. The pharmacist also know that you cannot just stop it and hopefully they will help you. I ran out once and they gave me several days worth once until i could get the doctors to call mine in. best of luck.

that was mean and unfortunate that that happened to you..she should definitely be fired..because that is your health she is talking about..people dont realize the importance of health until theyre on the receiving end..she should have never talked to you like that..i feel for you..because that is not right..i would definitely call that doctor , and get her fired..but in the meantime ,,and you to find other ways to get your medication so this doesnt happen to you in the future..like mail ordering ..good luck..god bless

I use automated services at the pharmacy, also and when run out of refills, the pharmacy "will" call the doctor's office, but I have the option of calling my doctor, myself......

I'm glad you're getting in to see someone else; however, you should not have to go through something like that every time you need something.  It's not for the receptionist to decide how important your issue is........

Yes, 75 mcg is important, since that's what you need.

Please find another doctor!  If you have to be on it for life make sure you get a refillable prescription that last the entire year.

Here where I live we are not allowed to contact our doctor's for ANY type of refill. Our pharmacy handles it all. If the refills are out the pharmacy's contact the doctor for you. Now if the doctor needs to see you to re do blood work the doctor's office calls you to come in, but for me it has always been YES we approved refill just come in for lab work.

The doctors' office will tell you to contact the pharmacy for refills. I don't know why they do it that way now, but they do & it is less hassle for me & my doctor. I use the automated services & it actually tells you they will contact the doctor for you. However, I have had a time or two where the PA or another doctor there would approve my thyroid medication, its not like it is a narcotic.

Go to a different doctor....

Hi

It floored me too as 75mcg means something doesn't it that I need it?  It is a shame to leave because of the receptionist because the doctors are really good and I am going to be telling him about what she said.  I have an appointment with one of the other doctors for wednesday.  I happened to tell my neighbor and she has given me some of hers to tide me over and told me the name of her doctor and the receptionists are all really helpful so I will look into going to them instead.

Wow -- that floors me......... she really said that since you are "only" on 75 mcg it doesn't matter??

When will your doctor be back in the office?  T4 med (levothyroxine) stays in your system for about a week, so you will have it in your system for a few days, though your levels will go down gradually ........ If your doctor will be in the office tomorrow and can give you a script, you should be okay; if you doctor won't be there, you need to find another doctor.......

Actually, with staff like that, I think I'd find another doctor anyway...... the receptionist is not a doctor and does not have the right to tell you that since you are "only on 75 mcg, it doesn't matter".

If you decide to stay with this doctor, please make sure that he knows what the receptionist did....... she overstepped her bounds.........
