Recent high TSH level

I have recently had labs drawn and found out I have a TSH level of 12.7. I dont know much about thyroid disorders and was just wondering if i should be alarmed or not my Dr. said the normal range is 0.4 to 4.3. I have never had my thyroid checked before since I have always heard that under active thyroid usually doesn't happen until later in life and I am 28 now but I have battled most of my life with feeling tired all the time and not having any energy not to mention eating half as much as friends and family and always being overweight, (extremely overweight) in the last year i have gained 30 pounds which triggered the Dr. to send me for a total blood work up and my TSH is the only thing out of wack. What should I expect at my follow up visit with the doctor?

Your Cholesterol and BP are great, My Cholesterol was 153 last time it was tested, although I have been taking Lipitor for years, I take 80 mg of Diovan per day also and my BP averages around 120/73, Thats why I am hoping that once my thyroid is stable, I can cut back on the BP and Chol. Medication. I guess we will both find out soon. Good Luck FTB4

I dont have the other results yet but i will be asking the doctor on Tuesday i did however get my cholesterol and glucose reading which were great my total cholesterol is 152 and my fasting glucose was 84 as well as perfect blood pressure readings around 112/74 so that is good i guess since i have read under active thyroid can lead to high cholesterol and HBP.

The normal range is now around 2.0 to 3.0, the range, 12.7 is high, if he is going by the old standards then he is not up to date, you might want to post the other readings on your test if you have them, if not, you can request them and members here can explaine them to you, or you can read some of the other posts here about TSH T2 and T3 levels, I am waiting for mine to post also, My TSH was just over 6.0 and I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Good Luck FTB4
