If a left thyroid nodule grew from 24.3 x 12.8mm from 12-07 to 24 x 25 in October of 08
and right nodule grew from 7.4 x 6.4 to 7..7 to 7.3 with nornal thyroid blood results and a benignBenign ear cyst or tumor Benign positional vertigo FNB? What would be the recommended treatment and is their concern about this growth?
Nodules have been monitored every year x 4 years with ultrasounds until October 08 in which
the progessive growth was noted.
If those are not big and those nodules are not bothering u then your endo will moniter the nodules regularly.
I think that is what he is doing...If the nodules grow bigger then u have to remove them.
From this site only, I got the info that there is treatment called PEI..ethanol injection to shrink the nodule..
Do you have any symptoms with nodules...I and u sail in the same boat..I have a big nodule on my right side....my nexy biopsy will be in FEB. I also have normalNormal saline flush thyoid function.
My thoughts are if I dont have surgery with they continue to grow and them start
causing me to have symtoms. and if I wait will they grow so large that my surgery
will be difficult and make my recovery longer? But I am scared about the actual
surgery it self and the needing for medication the rest of my life.
I have not experienced any symptoms at this point. My friends tell me that I am
hoarse sounding. How long have you been dealing with this?
Your left nodule is double in size..that is a concern...I think nodules will not shrink on its own....my assumption and invistigation...
So you have to take the decision here...Ask yourself? Is the nodules bothering you or you are having too many bad symptoms? If your answer is big "yes" then u should remove the nodules.
Surgery and recovering...I guess we have to face this...large or big nodule ..doctor will take out the whole gland..So give yourself time.
In my case, my nodule is not bothering me...When I work hard or stress out myself then I useually get neck pain..and there is a social problem with nodules that I always cover my neck and in my daily life some people ask me about what is that?
The nodule will not shrink on its own. They will continue to get bigger - so says my endo. I have a 2.6 x 2.1 x 2.2 mm nodule and they will be removing the nodule but not the entire thyroid gland (if it isn't cancerous - awaiting my FNA results). She said in 7 years from now (approx.) my nodule will be at 4 cm so they will take it out now because it is better to do it while you are younger. I can't wait to get it out. It is such a pain in the "you know what"!!
Investigate on why they would take the whole thing out. Partial thryoidectomy is better because you won't need to have hormone supplements.
My nodules did not decrease in size. It got to the point where i felt pressure on my trachea and needed a partial thyroidectomy. Actually the blood supply to the right side of the thyroid was gone.
I have a big nodule on my rigt side.. If I undergo surgery for my nodule...How much time it will take to recover? Do I need any medication after the partial thyriodectomy?
It is hard to take the decision to remove the nodule. It is not painful and my endo doesn't advice me to go for it...They leave everything upto the patient. So selfish people.
I also was wondering about what medication I would take if they take my nodules out or do a partial? Is there such thing as a partial thyroidectomy? I never saw them measured in mm before, only cm. If in meassured in mm mine sound huge at 47 mm and left at 45 mm. They changed from nothing on on side a year ago to 45 mm and the other side went from 17 mm to 45 mm in a year so that has me concerned. I have no side effects except you can see the lumps on the outside and sometimes have a little trouble swallowing bread. Hope all goes well with you. I have a biopsy FNA this week on the left side where nothing was a year ago. The right side that went from 17 to 45 had a biopsy a year ago and was benign but my concern is why it grew so fast in a year.

4 years ago the left nodules and smaller right nodules was noticed.
Every year I have a regular visit for a ultrasound. This year in October
the left side as doubled in size. So we completed a FNB with a benign result.
However, my ENT gave me two options. To wait 6 months and repeat the ultrasound
to make sure it doesn't shrink on its on or to go now and have a complete removal
of the entire thyroid gland. I have agreed to repeat a ultrasound in January.

Hope these nodules disappear on its own.
