Results

I have just had my blood test and got results. Doc says they are normal

Can't see anything other than these:

Serum free T4 level      18.7pmo1/L     (9 - 19.1)

TSH                             1.5mu/L         (0.35-4.94)

In August my TSH was 5.8 but seems to have gone down now

Yet I am still having symptoms of Hypo. I asked about free T3 and he ignored it.

NO, NO, NO --- do not accept the diagnosis that it's all stress related.  Yes, stress can aggravate thyroid issues, but thyroid issues can also cause additional stress and/or mimic symptoms of stress.

You really need an FT3 test and if you haven't already had them, antibody tests would certainly be in order to test for Hashimoto's.......

I don't know how your NHS works in the UK - I think I've read that if you can afford it, you can go to whomever you want.

I do know that in UK, doctors are very reluctant to test for FT3 and also reluctant to prescribe a T3 med, so you might have a fight on your hands, but it will be in your best interest to insist on proper treatment to alleviate symptoms.

Thanks for the reply. He actually is insisting that my symptoms are all stress related. Yes I do have a lot of stress at the moment but I really don't think it's that which is causing the whole problem. I am really rather annoyed because he said he would refer me to specialist and when I asked him what sort he was very vague so I am not sure whats going to happen. I was totally thrown out of sync at the low TSH reading and just sort of nodded to everything. I also got the distinct impression that he was getting annoyed with me!!!

Can I go private? I am in UK and am willing to do this

Your FT4 is quite high in it's range; the first thing that comes to mind is whether or not you are converting the FT4 to the usable FT3.  Without an FT3 test, there's no way to know,  but that's sometimes the case when one has a higher FT4 and still presenting with symptoms.

Can you call your doctor back and ask again about the FT3?  If not, I'd say maybe you need a different doctor, who will test and treat you properly.
