SUDDEN SEVERE TSH LEVEL JUMP - 7 YRS AFTER THYROID CANCER SURGERY

by mitch021, Dec 02, 2008 11:56AM

I had thyroid cancer in 2001 so had entire tyroid taken out. I have started having extreme tiredness recently, seven years after surgery so the Dr. recommended I have a test to check my TSH Levels again.  It is 14.00.  Wondering how it could suddenly be so high. I have been taking the same medication.  Also my Dr. now wants to change my dosage from 200mg's to 125mgs. My TSH is "positive" 14.00 "not negative". Isn't a "HIGH" TSH indictive of "HYPO"thyroidism, not "Hyper"thyroidism? It seems to me that my dosage should be going up, not down. I eat hardly anything and still gain weight and am exhausted. Any input is greatly appreciated?

Thank you...

The sudden change of TSH is curious, since you have no thyroid.  Could it be related to the aging process? I'm interested to know what people think, since this has bearing on all of us who have had a TT.  You are correct that the higher your TSH, the more you are hypo.  The decrease in dose is odd. Have you asked the doctor directly about this?

I'm 25 I gained 30 lbs and suffered from my feet feeling like they were on fire and even running them under cold water in the bathtub I couldn't feel the ice cold water and they were even hotter after. I was told after blood tests that I'm Hypo thyroid...then after sometime and after many blood test about a year after I'm told I don't have it anymore and I was not given any medications at all for this...Can a disease just go away? From my experience from having many of disease's myself I've never had any of them just go away they may spread less or be less noticeable but always there.
