I recently had my thyroid removed due to its being enlargedEnlarged adenoids Enlarged prostate, and multiple goitersChronic thyroiditis (hashimoto’s disease) Goiter Graves disease Toxic nodular goiter. My doctor recommended it be removed as well as the surgen, The surgery was difficult and it lasted 3 hours. I am currently taking 100mcg of levothyroxin (levothyroxineLevothyroxine Levothyroxine sodium) increased from the 75mcg I started with.it has been 4 weeks since my surgery and I am experiencing cronic fatigue, lack of energy some hair loss and mood swings. My doctor does not seem concerned and ask me to give it a while longer, I have also felt dizzy and out of sorts. I read some comments about synthroid versus the generic and am going to swith to syntroid., Will I see these symtoms go away if so how long? Is this normalNormal saline flush or are these symtoms unusal?
How long have you been on the medication? Since right after your surgery? I've been told that the meds can take 4-6 weeks to build up in your body, so the symptoms you are experiencing are pretty normal hypothyroid ones. I went through it as well....and still do a bit.
My endo told me that Synthroid name brand was best, as the generics can vary too much. If you do switch to Synthroid, be sure to ask your pharmacist what the cash cost is versus an insurance co-pay. The Synthroid website gives you coupons if you pay the cash price, and my first prescription ended up being half of what my co-pay would have been!
Good luck to you, and I hope you're soon feeling better. (I'm 6 weeks without my thyroid today)
This forum is wonderful - it has been an endless source of information and comfort for me. I hope you find the same!!
When are they going to check your levels (bloodwork)? That will let them know if you're on the right dosage or not. I hope for your sake it is soon- it's not fun to feel that bad all the time.
