SYNTHROID & CYTOMEL

I was feeling tired & drained, my Dr. took bloodwork & said I was very low (in every area) so she prescribed me Synthroid 200 MCG. & vitamins. I have been on that for about 3 months. Now she added Cytomel, 25 MCG twice a day. She did not lower my Synthroid meds. Do you think this is wise? I am just nervous about adding more meds...

Sorry I missed this post -- I agree with Fuel1212.  You could split it and take one with your synthroid and one at noon, or even later, but depending on your bed time, I wouldn't take it after 3:00 pm, or you might not be able to sleep.

25mcg cytomel starting off, sounds like an anxiety trip waiting to happen? They usually have you split it and take half in the morning with your Synthroid, and then another half in the afternoon.

Let us know how it works

Thanks

I did not get a copy of my lab work & no I didn't have any other testing done. I will request a copy of my lab today. I just started taking Cytomel today, I took one this morning, do you think I should take the other at noon or should one be enough until I get my lab work back? I am so nervous about taking all these meds.

What were your actual hormone levels - TSH, Free T3, Free T4?  Did you have antibody testing to check for autoimmune disease?

The only way anyone can fully comment is if we have the actual results for the tests, along with the reference ranges printed on the report.  If you don't have a copy of the lab report, you should get one; it's always in your best interest to ask for a copy for your records.

Also, what, if any, symptoms do you have?

25 mcg cytomel at one time seems like a very high dosage, but it would depend on your FT3 and FT4 levels.
