Scheduled for surgery

Saw my surgeon today, scheduled to have parathyroid surgery on 8/14.  I believe I have all of my questions answered but was wondering if anyone had any words of advice, suggestions, etc?  It's great being able to "talk" to some who have experienced what I'm going through right now. You guys are great! :) ~Cathy

Thinking of you as you have your surgery, and hoping everything goes well.

Hurray.  Sounds like good news to me.  It’s great that the surgery is fairly soon so you can start feeling better.  Plus that it's going to be the minimal one.  It sounds like you found a qualified surgeon – that’s so important.

My recommendation before surgery:  Drink plenty of water.  They told me to do this to help the kidneys flush out the excess calcium.  You might not need it for that reason but extra water is still a good idea anyway to keep the body hydrated.

After surgery:  Resting, resting, resting and more resting.

To answer your question on the other thread:

“May I ask why your thyroid needed to be removed as well? Was it something they knew ahead of time or something they found during the procedure?”

At the surgery consult the dr said my thyroid felt enlarged.  He did an u/s and suspected it would become dangerous if left in place.  He was right; it was pre-cancerous.

Please keep in touch.  Best of luck.
