Seems like a high THYROID PEROXIDASE AB test

I just received my results back from tests my doctor ordered, interesting results - but what does it mean?

THYROID PEROXIDASE AB  -  2519
TSH   -  4.57
FREE T3  -  2.8

Considering the lab said that normal range for the Thyroid Peroxidase AB was 0.0 - 60, I am a little concerned.  Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!

Your D is VERY low!

Similar to what gimel noted, you are the classic Hashimoto case, nothing odd for Hashi.

So you were concerned with the high THYROID PEROXIDASE AB. Obviously you are over the limit and test positive. Dont get to bent for your high level, its common. Symptoms do not correlate with how high over the range someone is. Your over or under, but there are a few that are borderline sometimes. Think of it as you have it or you dont. Many people put great effort into trying to lower these antibodies with alternative supplements or diets - but know what? They never get the antibodies under the range, its 99.9 % impossible.

Ditto to gimel's always great advice and I want to stress pulling up those Vitamin D numbers! Google Vitamin D & Thyroid disease and you will read plenty. I take 4000 IU's a day and mi\ne still stays low! Frustrating when I am a middle aged woman that needs to take care of her bones!!

Your TPO ab test, along with the FT3, Vitamin D, and TSH tests are all consistent with having current or eventual hypo symptoms due to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.  Hashi's is due to the autoimmune system producing antibodies that start attacking the thyroid glands and continue over an extended period of time until the glands are basically destroyed.  Along the way your body will need increasing amounts of replacement thyroid meds to offset the loss of natural thyroid hormone production.   It is good that you have had FT3 and FT4 testing done.  Those are the tests that should be monitored and adjusted as necessary to relieve symptoms, not your TSH level.  You'll find that a majority of members are here due to Hashi's, so we can provide a lot of experience and hopefully some helpful advice as you go forward.  Certainly there are likely to be periods when you feel better than others, but with a good thyroid doctor as a partner, Hashi's can be managed successfully.  We are all dedicated to helping any way we can, so keep us tuned in.

I am editing my question because after reading, I should have put the ranges in as well... so here it is:

THYROID PEROXIDASE AB  -  2519   range:  0.0 - 60

TSH (Reflexive)  -  4.57    range:  0.3 - 5.5

FREE T3  -  2.8   range:  2.4 - 4.4
