Sensory problems

Did anyone with Hashimotos ever go through a sensory change.  For example, loud noises are intolerable.  Smells that you could tolerate before make you sick to your stomach now.  Lights are overwhelming and it's hard to focus.   Food you used to love does not taste the same.  Weird stuff like that.  If not, what kind of specialist do you think I should see?

Thanks for the idea - I figured that it would be nerve related, but I've never had a problem with my back, so never considered that possibility.  Another thing to put to my dr.

Electrical current feeling is definatley nerve related. Maybe you have a bulging disk or 2 in your back? I have those plus osteoarthritis and when it's flaring up - I get that feeling.
Best of luck to you!

I've had nerve conduction test, ct scan of brain, and mri on cervical spine and all "normal".  I do have pernicious anemia which will also cause neuropathy - in fact, my pernicious anemia was actually dx almost a year before my hypothyroidism, mostly because of the neuropathy.  I had the pins and needles, along with some numbness for a while before I started on the B-12 injections and a lot of that has since gone away.  This feeling of electrical current in my feet and knee is relatively new (maybe about a month now).  Haven't had a chance to talk to my dr about it.

I don't know if I have Hashimotto's or not - they never tested me for it.

Thank you all for making me feel better.  Rachel4 I agree with you about the not wanting to eat part.  Its that I don' t want to eat so the food I loved doesn't taste the same.  If anyone has gone through pregnancy they know what I am talking about.  You would have more food aversions than cravings.

I was just in to a neurologist. I have Hashi's and he feels I also have an autonomic nervous system disorder. I have numb spots in my feet, get pins and needles, and neuropathy. I read up some after he told me that and have found that hypothyroidism can be one of the causes for that. If Hashi's eventually turns into Hypo, it stands to reason that when your levels fluctuate it could cause these symptoms.
I'm scheduled to get several tests to find out where mine is coming from.

Yeah, me too.  My husband smokes and although I quit over a year ago, I've never had a problem with it until the past couple weeks - it almost gags me.  Also, I've been getting this feeling in my feet and also in my right knee that feels like an electrical current being shot into me.  I have dr appt on Thurs and planned to talk to him about it.

oh my goodness yes!!.....I was with my daughter at a museum and I said I keep smelling this awful smell, what could it be.....it was her deoderant!!...I couldn't stand it...she's used the same one for yrs, but I don't see her that often, she lives in NY.....I have always preferred the darker rooms...candle lit....but I have noticed loud sounds really drive me crazy......especially if there is someone speaking loudly and the TV is on...I either have to leave the room or turn the TV on mute.....I read the close captions and never realize I didn't turn the sound back on.....my husband said, y is the sound off, and I said off what?...lol....I was so into reading I didn't notice.....I tend to do that when I have a major head ache.
sorry I really went on here, but I wanted to say all I have found similar to what u asked.

Godspeed

I've noticed a difference with some senses. My eyes are really sensitive to light change and smells are definitely more intense.  However, the smell change could be due to using a sinus rinse daily for about a year now.

I have HM and I have been not liking loud noises and a very strange thing keeps happening in my right foot. The bottom of my left toes feel like a heating pad is against it for a few seconds then it goes away. When I touch my foot it's cold. I never want to eat but I don't notice a taste difference. No doctor can tell me what's up either.
