Should I be Concerned about the findings on my ultrasound

by jlynn1973, Mar 13, 2009 03:23PM
The right lobe measures 6.2x2.1x2.6 cm. The left lobe measures 4.6x4.5x2.0cm
The Isthmus measures 2.4mm.
The gland is diffusely nonhomongeneous wiht multiple small hypoechoic areas bilaterally.
There is a Focal Ovoid Hypoechoic area in the isthmus measuring 1.8x0.6x0.7. Vascular flow is present in the nodule

Impression:
Enlarge Diffusely heterogeneous gland with an ovoid solid hypoechoic nodule in the isthmus.

Did your report say if the nodules are cold nodules.  Cold nodules are nodules that don't take up the iodine which means they are not made up of thyroid tissue.  If that is the case then you would have the fine needle aspirations which probably won't tell you much but might save you from surgery. Good Luck

If the nodule in the isthmus is solid  must undergo biopsy due to the following:
ovoid shape,
size,
internal blood flow
the overall echogenic structure of the gland is suggestive of inflammatory process.
