I'm not sure this helps but when the doctors began investigating my thyroid I went in because I kept getting sick, Multiple instances of strep throat and then bronchitis that I just couldn't shake, spent 2 months on antibiotics, I think there is definitely a connection, I'm just not sure what it is.

Dear Venora,
My situation is somewhat difference from yours. I have a straightforward case of mild hypothyroidism, although there have been many times in the last year when I would have debated the term "mild."
My most difficult months did not start until I had been taking Levothroid for almost two months (which maybe goes to show that getting a thyroid problem under control is not necessarily as simple as the standard medical models suggest). In fact, the tough times started with a cold. My reaction was "No big deal," but then the number of days it took the cold to run its course...wow. It broke all records for colds I have had in the past. The first subtle symptoms crept in on November 10th. Not until December 6th did I feel that the cold was completely gone at last.
So guess what my New Year's Eve surprise was? The second cold went away more quickly than the first one had...but then here came a third cold on January 26th.
I do not know the mechanics of the connection, but I have read that the thyroid gland contributes heavily to the immune system's ability to function well. I have NOT ever read anything indicating that RAI damages the immune system, so I doubt that you have any worries there. The bad news is that as you know, since you have participated in this forum a lot, it seems to take a long while for some of us to get our thyroid problem (whatever type we have) fully under control.
When you say that you are SOOOOO sick of this, I hear you clearly. Before my thyroid gland's struggles began to be apparent, I went as long as twenty-four months between colds. When I came down with my third cold in slightly less than three months' time, it just about bent me in two emotionally.
I just hope fervently that what happened for me will happen for you. About a month after Cold # 3, I started to get the symptoms of still another cold. I was able to be a pretty good stoic about it, but then doggone if my immune system did not manage to give the threatened cold the boot. Since then, I have seen more than once that my body's ability to "fight off" a threatened infection is back to what it used to be.
Of course, hopes for a better future are not a lot of help to you right now! The common cold can be uncommonly miserable, and that is doubly true when you barely get over one of them before you come down with another. I am sending you "bounce back quickly" thoughts and prayers.
Yours,
Jenny
