Since minor stomach virus I have awful heartburn/gas from my Synthroid and Mobic (anti-inflammatory) .. anybody else

get that and which med did you take and how far out did you space it out?  I have been taking mega Rolaids or Tums but think I need more like a Zantac or Prilosec (otc) for now ...... did you get it from Synthroid at all alone?  My anti-inflammatory for my ankle is really the culprit as that, in itself, is very hard on the GI .. and coupled with the thyroid med I have heartburn, etc.

I figure safe to spread out meds by 2hrs ?

Sustenex is something you should consider instead of plain old acidophillus. Just a better all around healer for what you need at this time.

Just a thought...

Thank you both for your comments.  Christy, at the same time of this *pesky* virus I was on two diff. types of antibiotics for a bad urinary tract infection (Levaquin for 10 days and then Bactrim for 10 days) and now I am cured of the UTI and left with this so probably the virus/infection did a # on the stomach, too, and there is inflammation I bet.

Stella, I was taking the Acidophillus during the 3 weeks of antibiotic therapy and stopped so I will begin it again and have plenty in the house! And try the Zantac regime for certain and if all else fails then touch base with my Dr., to be certain no other damage done by taking this darn Mobic for over a year now .. kidney panel bloodwork is fine on the Mobic but it can cause GI Bleed, etc. w/o warning so it may be doing a # on my stomach .. the Orthopedist is the one who scripted the Mobic but my Prim. Doc should be the one to figure out the side effect given my other meds, too, etc.

Carafate is a good one for the anti-inflammatory but have to be VERY careful bcz it really impedes absorption and they don't like to use it .. used to heal ulcers like a thick horse pill tablet which is chalk like consistency .. I may ask the ped about that if the Zantac fails.  I get nausea from Prilosec.  I have prescrip Prevacid in the house for my dd with the gallbladder who hasn't needed ONE PILL since her surgery .. how about that!!!  It was BILE reflux forher and not ACID!

THANKS BOTH!

Tater

Jump in a acidophillus tablet - 4 a day - won't hurt any meds - and take a Zantac150 one am (4 hrs btwn synthroid)  and one at night before bed.  Your TSH is good - so this will coat the stomach and help heal it again.

Two weeks at least. and eat lots--lots of "ice cold" yorgurt. I find water will sometimes get me more acid too - but we need it - pump up with the acidophillus.

my son had a stomach virus about 3 months ago and ended up in terrible agony which he said was like heart burn only more severe so he went to the chemist who gave him antacid but over the next couple of days it got worse so he took himself off to hospital and they told him that the virus had eaten a portion of his stomach lining which made it raw and the acid was eating into it. He was put on two different kinds of antibotics and some more potent antacid and within three days it was on its way to healing now he doesn't have any problems with heartburn. Yours seems a bit more complicated but hopefully you will get some relief soon
