When B12 levels are very low, it can take a while to build back up again, once you get on the shots. How often are you getting them? Typically, B12 shots are done on a monthly basis, after the initial month of weekly shots; however, I find that I have to inject weekly, in order to keep my levels up high enough to feel well.
Okay, you have multiple nodules and your doctor wants you to have a thyroidectomy - is that correct? Is this an endo, or a pcp doctor?
Will look forward to the reference ranges for the T3 and T4. Also verify that they are Free T3 and Free T4, not total.
If there was no ferritin on your lab report, was there anything for iron?
I'm in the process of seeking a second opinion. My doctor will not put me on meds (she says I have no real reason). Her first and only option for me was surgery. The largest nodule is at 4 cm. There were over ten, but all are smaller. I've been on B12 shots for three months now and nothing else. Didn't see ferritin listed in my labs. Will have T3/4 ranges posted soon.
Yeah, I was told over ten years ago I was anemic and was nothing followed. I was told three years ago to take vitamins. It was the latter part of last year that it was determined my body wasn't absorbing it. They ordered and upper GI (found nothing). I've been on the shots for three months now.
My sister had insomnia with vitamin B12 deficiency. I slept like the dead with vitamin B12 deficiency. A B12 of 149 is not an overnight event. The usual time is about 5 to 6 years for a normal person to be vitamin B12 deficient but in autoimmune pernicious cases it can take many decades. I know!
We were all new to forums, at one time, so not to worry; I just regret having to ask the same questions that someone else might already have asked.
Are you currently on a thyroid replacement medication? If so, which one, what dosage and for how long have you been on it? Can you please provide the reference ranges for the T4 and T3; ranges vary lab to lab so have to be posted with your results, from your own report. Also, please confirm that they are Free T4 and Free T3, not total.
Your B12, at 149, is definitely too low; you might want to talk with your doctor about going to shots vs pills, since it would appear that you may not be absorbing the B12 you're taking.
Do you happen to know what your ferritin level is?
Well Barb, I appreciate the imput. I'm new to forums, so I'm learning. My last test results showed: TSH 0.02, T4= 1.07, T3= 3.49, B12= 149.T4 was at 1.38 few months ago. I didn't see Vitamin D levels (not sure if there's another term listed) , but I have been taking 2000 units daily for severe deficiency. Also been on iron and cyanocobal (100mcg) for anemia. Although I've mentioned what I'm going through, my records list me as asymptomatic. I do see now that I should request another doctor. This is the first time I've seen my records and everything I said I was experiencing, she reported no to all: Heat intolerance, loss of hair, increased fatigue, palpatations, chest pains, blurring of vison, constipation, tremors so on and so forth, but she's highly recommending surgery.I'm extremely uncomfortable all the time and I just want to know what's going on. It's sad that not everyone entering the medical field, actually try their best to help individuals.
I know you have several threads going at once and unfortunately, I can't remember all the information in each of them. Sometimes it's best to keep all your information together, so we can reference it easily.
What's your current thyroid condition? Insomnia is a symptom of being hypo, or it can be a symptom of hyper/over medication. Please post labs with reference ranges and any other pertinent labs, such as Vitamin B12 and vitamin D......
