Sore Throat...feels like a band slowly moving up my throat...

by KD9ER, Aug 21, 2008 10:01AM
Ok guys.  The first time I suffered from this was back in 2001 (Beginning of December).  It felt like a large ring (kind of like in old school cartoons where they'd swallow rings and they'd stack up in the character's throat.) starting at the base of the throat and moving upward daily.  When it gets near the vocal chords I lose my voice.  But it honestly hurts.  In 2002 I had it twice.  In 2003 I had it maybe 5 times.  In 2004 I had it 2 times.  In 2005 I ended up having it about 7 times.  In 2006 I had it 3 times.  In 2007 I had it 4 maybe 5 times.  And so far this year I've had it 2 times.  The doctors discredit me by saying it's just a sore throat, but you can physically feel this "band" moving up my throat.  I feel like it "holds" my throat open...wider than it's used to being.  It's about a finger wide.  Does this make sense???  I feel like I'm not explaining it well enough.

Is this related to the Thyroid...AutoImmune...or could it be something else entirely?  Has anyone else had this???

I am not a dr just going to through out some thoughts here..

..could it be some nodule that is inflammed and getting larger,

how are your labs running/ My throat gets sore when my TSH needs adjusting.

Also, could it be GERD? that causes sore throat as well...

All I know is that my whole throat gets hard.  I know that sounds extremely funny and I'm lauging at it myself, but the difference between a normal sore throat and this is the band.

Once I was told it was an esophageal band, but that really didn't help me.  The band moves up my throat, so I'm not sure that would be a swollen nodule as it moves.  Or even a lymph thing.

No GERD issues.  Although I'm very very cold.  Colder than normal.  I am a bit shaky because of being cold.

being cold sounds like it could have something to do with your thyroid or your hypothalmus.

Either way...I know you just want to relief....

Yes relief would be nice.

I just didn't know if anyone else had dealt with this band feeling in their throat.  It hurts and usually I'm not one to complain about pain.  This is easily a 5.  It makes the sore joints feel like a good day!  And that says a lot.

OH well.  I was really just wondering.
