Sore scar 6 weeks post-TT?

by KelDC, May 19, 2008 01:59PM
Today is 6 weeks since my TT, and I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that my scar is incredibly sore. It hurts when I rub stuff on it nightly (per doctor's orders) and my shirt collar really irritates it, as well.  Even my hair laying across it can hurt.  It even hurts when nothing is touching it, but it doesn't hurt all the time like that. It does hurt every time something touches it, though.  Sometimes it almost feels like a burning pain. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue following their surgery?

My surgeon phoned me last week, and I completely forgot to ask him about it. I figured I'd poll you, my comrades in arms, before I called his office.  =)

Thank you!

You sound like me .. i lived in silk scarves for about 2-3 months .. they felt good but nothing else did .. no cream, nothing!  What cream?  If bacitracin you may be building up a resistance to it .. or Neosporyn, same thing???

Once the inflammation goes down then the pain sometimes is felt moreso .. that ismy experience with mole removals, too.

I've been using mostly Bio-Oil and occasionally Bag Balm (which is an antiseptic).  It is just so sore all the time, and it never has been before.  I'm thinking about going home and icing it - I think the cold would feel great!

I'd ask the doc if you can use nothing for a few days and see what happens but be sure to ask him as I'm not a dr.   I couldnt' use anything on mine for a good 8+ weeks ..... maderma cream hurt, vit e oil hurt, too ...... it may be from the cream .... I recall others having the same issue as what you describe ????

I have been rubbing vitamin e oil (from a capsule) on my incision every night (maybe rubbing the area for 2 minutes or so in a circular motion).  However, my incision is still sore.  So this doesnt seem to be helping.  Maybe I should stop...?

When I saw the surgeon a week ago, he said it was normal to feel sore for up to 6 months!!!  And if you have surgery twice, like lucky me, it could be a sensitive area forever. :(

KelDC I'm glad you posted on this subject. I am 9 weeks post-op and although my scar is not really sore, I can still feel a couple of small lumps. My scar and my neck around it and even up to my chin is still numb. I use cream on it every morning and night but its weird because I can't feel anything. Yikes - is all this normal??

My scar was very sensitive for a long time.  I never put anything on it because it was too much to even go near.  It's still kind of like that.  I'll still wake at night to move my blanket if it touches that area.

It does take time.  As long as everything's okay per the dr...

Take care.

Thanks for the posts, all, I really appreciate it!!

Cheryl, thanks - it's good to know I'm not alone!

D, I've been rubbing stuff, too, and it still hurts. I've stopped, except for a little bit after my shower. I guess I will see if not rubbing it nightly helps. I'll keep you posted!

Catie, I am only numb in some places right around the scar....but then the scar itself hurts. It's a little swollen still, too, but just right at the incision site.

Rodeo, mine was feeling pretty good 9 days after....it was the coughing, sneezing, laughing, and yawning that were painful!!  =)

Thank you!  I'm the same way at night - if the blanket or sheet touches it, I'm awake and moving it. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

I'm the same with my shirts right now....sometimes, I could tear the collar right out of it. I've been wearing open collared shirts to work (even though they show my scar in all its red glory), just so nothing sits on it and bothers it.
