Soreness?

I know most of you here have gone through periods of being undertreated with Hashi/Hypo..I have been consistantly undertreated for a number of years. I believe T4 replacement alone just doesn't work for me. I've set an appointment with another Dr., but Dec. 4th was the first available...ssoo, i'm on 150mcg Levo, started that in Sept. after a hospital Dr. took blood and my TSH was over 7. T4 free was 1.1...has been for a long time, no matter how much T4 i take..but my T3 free at that time was 2.2.....bottom of range on this lab is 2.3. Lately i have very SORE muscles. not all over , mostly upper back, arms.it's weird, feels like you do when you work out and over did things..that same soreness, only i'm not doing anything different..HA i don't have the energy to!! this is starting to bother me , i'm thinking i have some horrible muscle disease and not just undertreated hypo. i have other remaining symptoms..major hairloss..on and on..i just wondered if anyone else has had that soreness..not achey..joint soreness also. i feel the worst in the mornings, but it never is completely gone.i honestly can't remember what feeling good feels like anymore. sorry about the whining and complaining.i really just wanted to ask you folks about the muscle soreness? is it just me? does anyone else have this , or had in the past when trying to get things "right" i have to say , my bloodwork has NEVER been optimal, i haven't had bloods done since dosage increase.i am inbetween doc's...so #'s are from about 8 weeks ago. i would think that taking T4 for as long as i have 3yrs+ my T3 free would look better??

Stella hit it on the mark. Most of us need magnesium also. I also had major muscle pain on only T4 meds for ten years. T3 obviously helped that in about 4 days this spring! I then switched to dessicated and feel better. If you can tolerate Cytomel combo with T4, great, its easily available too. Cytomel relived my muscle pain but gave me a headache that was endless, so I'm on dessicated, which will be worth more than gold soon.

My TPO is 600 and my Antithyroglobulin was in the stratosphere at 22,247 IU/mL. My TSH is also sky high at 248.0 (yeah, not 2.48 or 24.8) . My T4 was 1.3 ug/dL. And my Free Thyroxine Index (FTI) is only 0.3.

I also have the soreness you speak of and is one of the symtoms of Hashi/Hypo so you are not alone. My muscles also cramp easily, for example, my triceps will wad up if I straighten my arm too quickly and my forearms are very tight. My hands will cramp up quickly while using a screwdriver. Mornings I can sometimes have extremely stiff back muscles and tight calves. The stiffness goes away, but during the day my back feels like it does when you have the flu, it is miserable.

The last few weeks I've been feeling the symtoms of Myxedema, which is a more advanced stage of Hypo from what I've read. I've only been on T4 for a week now (50 mcg), so it's too soon to feel any positive effects yet.

Sore muscles is usually the hypo symptom of of a depletion of magnesium. Being hypo for so long eats aways the magnesium and the muscles become inflammed.

Ironically when this symptom develops it is one of the last symptoms to go away - AFTER - becoming optimal with the right amount of FT3 hormone getting in for a while.

It's maddening to have constant pain - so you are not complaining. Its very frustrating to have this go one and one and not see an end.

You express a common issue with some about taking in a T4 medication and not getting relief of the problems associated with hypothyroidism, That is why the Free T3 is so important to tweek. a low FT3 indicated a problem still is there and your doctor can look at T3 meds to correct that lab.
