I could never have Soy sauce as it made me extreemely Hyper before RAI for Graves & Hyperthyroidism.
I avoided soy like the plague as well as iodised salt.
Soy and soya milk can send a Hyper person over the edge in a matter of an hour so I avoided anything that wasnt 'fresh'.
Soy does have a lot of salt content too.
I think the plural of Moose is Mice......LOL!
OK, so that's another.
Would you be interested in participating in a test..........for goolarra's entertainment and my data collection? If I just test my self who's going to run all the test instrumentation for all the numbers for people to watch?..............
So, seriously, soy (even in soy sauce) is not to popular with you, and this was not the case before Hoshi?
"Soy beans are basically pig and cattle fodder. We can't digest them. I don't know if the pigs and cattle can either, but it's cheap feed."
-Well....those are hoofed mammals just like moose (mooses?).
"Yes, please, swig a couple of hits of it and let us know if it's any different from downing a glass of soy milk. You will be following a great tradition of scientists who experimented on themselves. If we don't hear from you.............."
-I suppose you would you enjoy a live web feed of me possibly suffering during this experimental process? Now i'm chicken. Baaak bauk bauk buk!..........
I always react to soy sauce....bummer as I LOVE chinese food and cooking with soy sauce. I am a Hashi patient.....and soy sauce makes my thyroid swell!! Also will give me almost a feeling of hyper symptoms. STrange but true! :)
I'm not saying it will be okay if it's fermented, just that fermented soy is different from the unfermented kind. Soy beans are basically pig and cattle fodder. We can't digest them. I don't know if the pigs and cattle can either, but it's cheap feed.

'Worcestorshire sauce.' - Never thought of that for stir fry.
'There are many alternatives to soy in many Asian stores' - Some Asian stores nearby that I never been in.
I'll try both.
I'm not 100% certain yet, when you suspect things you cant rule out timing of other possibilities either. My throat area tightened up at night after I cooked with a new Asian sweet and sour sauce that had soy in it (twice), felt a lot like when I've had my thyroid swell but not as severe or lengthy. I didn't know sweet and sour sauce would contain soy until I read the label afterward. I have had reflux in the past, so I know that feeling, it was different. And my throat/neck/thyroid were feeling good before that happened, so? Weird. Have read here about people trying to avoid soy in vitamins. My multi Vitamin, like most, contains soy, I have not had a reaction to that, its not much either though.
I just read the ingredients of about ten brands of different Asian sauces at the store today, all say soy or soy sauce as base.
So, from what you know, the difference of soy vs thyroid should be that it's OK if soy is fermented. Hmm.
I could always conduct my own test of just taking a swig of the stuff.......and wait and see if anything happens!............
There are many alternatives to soy in many Asian stores. Try oyster sauce, it's quite tasty. Bit thick but nice! Black bean sauce is a traditional Chinese sauce for stir fry. Try a mix of peanut butter and water REALLY nice! I often put a teaspoon of honey and a splash of Worcestorshire sauce, if I run out of soy sauce. Also nice, but you might have to hunt for that as it is a traditional English sauce.
Cheers!
Are you sure that soy sauce affects your thyroid like other soy products? Soy is basically indigestible, UNLESS it's fermented as it is in soy sauce, tempe (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and a couple of other things that escape me at the moment. Apparently, the Japanese figured out what they had to do to it to make it digestible eons ago...we haven''t caught up.
You will see 'soy' come up in this forum occasionally. Its in many things in small quantities, and obviously in large amounts in certain items like Soy Milk (almond milk is the answer for those avoiding dairy, delicious too), and soy sauce and vegetarian man made foods. I'm not a 'veggie' by the way.
In recent times it is thought that soy is not good for the thyroid, can result in temporary discomfort in the thyroid itself (inflames with pain) and sometimes thyroid symptom return for a short time. Many here report this, but may be rare, I doubt it affects the majority. Kind of like some with Graves will mention see food (fish and plant type) will increase hyper feeling. It most likely depends how far your thyroid is 'shot' to begin with. I dont know if this is just the effects with autoimmune thyroid issues or even just basic hypo thyroid.
Really is it not good for us if we have Hashi, what does it do? i didn't know this:( love stir fry..
