Soy and Thyroid function blood test

Hello all and glad to see everyone again after my trip to Okinawa Japan.  As you probably saw my lastest blood work I have a question regarding soy.  Here it goes:

I have been using soy since I found out I have the dairy problems in my body and that has been for about 20 years now.  I am not sure how soy interferes with absorbtion as I take my Levo first thing when I wake up and eat the one hour later as directed and soy is usually in my Hot wheat cereal.

Now with how fast my TSH dropped and stayed at the number could this be a "depends on the person" case or if you do not have a thyroid anymore due to removal?  I forgot to ask my endo this but of everything I read I am not sure if I am an exception to the rule?  After RAI and 6 weeks on my new life pill, I was at 0.06 then my doc told me to take a 1/2 a pill on Sunday(Due to heart issues, racing when resting some palps, etc..) then went to 0.03 and he decreased my dosage since I was still having extreme hype symptoms with my heart and now 8 weeks later I am right where he wants me at 0.16.

I also take supplements thru Pharmanex(NUSKIN), Lifepak(Lunch and dinner also depends if I remember to take them at lunch mainly at dinner though), Tea green, Bio Gingko, and Reishi Max (all Pharmanex brands).  I do spread these out throughout the day.

Anyone have any explaination on this?

Cheers!

Scott

My endo told me if my body is used to getting the soy then my body will adjust accordingly. I still drink my soy milk just not in overload as I was before surgery. Just do what you're doing- if it's working for you.

Happy to hear you're doing so well!

You are supposed to avoid soy milk for 3-4 hours after taking your med.

My experience with SOY was different. One day when I ran out of milk for my cereal, I used the Soy Skim Milk my family is using, more than an hour after I took my Levothyroxine. That afternoon I felt really terible, like I did not take my medication at all. I was fatigue and can't concentrate due to brain fog. I did not fell better until a couple days later. Since then I made sure to take out SOY from my diet and I felt good. I grew up with an Okinawan mother, so most of my diet have Soy in it but some how it interferes with the absorption of my Hypothyroid medication.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid last June 8, 2007 and taking 25 mcg of Levothyroxine with TSH of 6.22. Right now I know this dose is not enough because I ran out of energy after three days of work. Tomorrow, I'll be seeing my GP to check the result of my blood test taken last week.

I bought a bike in May and I LOVE being out on the trails.  It's just as fun as it was when I was a kid. Wish I had gotten a road bike, but I have some sort of hybrid (trail?)bike that is heavier and slower.  I am thinking about trading it for a road bike as our nearby trail is 45 miles long and paved the whole way.
I'm glad the soy is not interfering with your med absorption.

Enjoy riding. :-D
