Her TPO 122 range 0-34. She did not have a thyroid ultrasound . She had an adrenal MRI to rule out tumors.
Her thyroid antibodies .
B12 pills.
Thanks for the quick response,
Pat
Which antibodies are high?
B-12 pills or shots?
I'll have to ask her if she had her iron levels checked when she had most of her blood tests done. When she went last week the dr only checked her thyroid levels checked. That day she gave her the prescription for the generic synthroid. I had her cut them in half when she started them. She received the test results yesterday .so thye generic synthroid was taken after her blood tests were taken. She goes back in August to the drs.
Her blood tests were taken in the afternoon and she has been using coconut oil and some other supplements for over 6 months. I wonder if that effected her blood tests?
We do know that pcos is causing some of her symptoms but she has been on metformim for a few years already and her blood sugars are good that's why we are puzzled.
Has she had iron tests done? That could also explain the hair loss and fatigue if she's low on iron. PCOS can also be the cause of some of her symptoms, and you said she's on metaformin- How have her blood sugars been doing?
For clarification, were those tests taken *after* being on the generic synthroid, or before?
Thanks for the quick responses. She has been on metformin and a low glycemic diet for a few years already but she is still fatiqued and putting on weight.. Recently her hair started to fall out. Since January she has lost a few pounds but that was with intense training and hardly eating anything which is hard for her to continue.
She has been on B12 since January but she just started Vitamin D supplements.
The dr has been keeping an eye on her thyroid since she has high antibodies and with my history so that's why she decided to give her generic synthroid to see if that helps.
She is cutting her pills in half until she got her test results.
I agree that your daughter's thyroid numbers look good and that she really might not need to be on thyroid hormones. Amazing that many who really have low levels of thyroid hormones can't get their doctors to give them replacement med and your daughter's doctor gives them when she might not need them. I'd certainly look into other causes for her symptoms, first.
How long has she been on the metformin? It does take a while for that to work for some people.
While I'm not a fan of the LCHF diet, I am a firm believer in the low glycemic diet, which is similar in that it limits simple carbs that spike blood sugar; it just doesn't go for the high fat... moderation is key, there.
You might also have vitamin D and Vitamin B-12 levels tested. Vitamin D deficiency can cause hypothyroid like symptoms and low levels of vitamin B-12 can cause fatigue.
Those numbers look good. I was hyperthyroid for the first week starting 50mcg and my TSH was 6. Your daughter's symptoms are all listed under PCOS so that to me looks to be the problem. You can check out the blog Diet Doctor for more information about LCHF (low carb high fat diet) if you are interested. Here is one of the articles on PCOS...
