Going from 150 mcg to 0.5 grain is quite a decrease. So, yes, she'll probably need an increase before too long.
My point was that someone taking 1.5 grains, for example, who wanted to split the dose into 2/3 in the morning and 1/3 in the afternoon, would simply take a whole 1 grain tablet in the morning and half in the afternoon. Just ask your doctor to prescribe tablets that offer the most options. You can get "close enough" splitting into halves and quarters.
all the generic T4 my wife has ever had in various dosages as well as now her Armour have all been circular round pills. So I suppose a person could strategically place the pill in the splitter and estimate 1/3 of the circle.
Right now my wife is on half a grain a day. And she splits it 50/50 so a quarter grain in the morning and a quarter grain in the afternoon. Been on this only since last Thursday so just a week tomorrow. I think she will need an increase in the next couple of weeks. She was taking 150 mcg T4, so that will start to wane off over the weeks and so too I suppose conversion from that as well. So a boost in Armour would seem prudent about 2 to 4 weeks in would be my guess.
It depends on the dose, of course. Someone taking 1.5 grains, for example, would have no trouble taking 2/3 in the morning and 1/3 in the afternoon if they had 1 grain tablets.
My pill splitter only does two halves...sometimes more "equal" than others...but I can usually mange to split those funny shaped Levoxyl tablets into quarters. I've ruined a few tablets doing it, but practice makes perfect! LOL
"...some people find that taking more than half in the morning and the rest in the afternoon works best. "
The only problem with that is being able to find a pill splitter that can cut it 2/3 and 1/3. The pill splitters we've been able to find only cut a pill into two equal halves.
I suppose a person could pulverize it and measure the dust into portions.
That's roughly an equivalent dose, "equivalent" meaning a recommended starting dose when switching to Armour. Armour can behave quite differently, so there's some experimentation involved at first.
Most people split any meds with T3 in them into two half doses. Typically, half is taken first thing in the morning, and the other half around noon or early afternoon (not too late or sleep could be affected). You can also play with what balance works best for you, i.e. some people find that taking more than half in the morning and the rest in the afternoon works best.
