Swelling after Lobectomy

by plk40atmc, Apr 18, 2007 12:00AM
I had a lobectomy on 4/13, and stitches removed on 4/16, at that time they did not seem to think it was overly swollen.  I realize it hasn't even been a week, but I was expecting the swelling to go down a little each day and it hasn't been.  How long does it normally take for the swelling to do down?

i had a lobectomey back on Jan 31, left side. At my one week check up I had very little swelling, but I was told to expect that it could look a bit like a small ball was behind there and that was normal for a little while. I was initially like, OK, but that's not going to happen because I am already a week post op and not at all swollen, but wouldn't ya know, two days later I was looking in the mirror brushing my teeth and there it was, looked like I swallowed a golf ball. Gone the next morning, but by the end of the day it was back. Was like that off and on for about 3 weeks. It seemed the more I was doing the more fluid collected behind the incision. Long story short, I am now almowt 12 weeks post surgery and it is a nice flat line that is healing quite well.

Good luck to you!

I had a partial in Jan 07 .. no swelling like that but muscle soreness that still comes and goes above where the thyroid 1/2 used to be.  I had problems with wound infection (stitch abscesses) so that was my claim to fame.  Lumpy incision finally feeling smooth and starting to lighten up finally!!!!  Can finally see where it will fall into skin line and become nearly invsibile YEAH!
