Swelling lymph nodes at the back of neck, left thigh, pubic bone...please help me...

Hi, I am 27-year-old. I was diagnosed with stage I papillary thyroid cancer on Dec 26, 06 during the total thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine therapy on Jan 26, 07. I started taking thyroxin (150 microgram) on Feb 4, 07. It's been ok except I have some mild joint and muscle pain (doesn't stay in one place). My oncologist cleared me after my RAI scans. My endocrinologist suggested I should take calcium pills and it stopped the pain except it gave me serious constipation even when I only take 600 mg every other day. I started taking Senna pills (2 x 7.5 mg) for my constipation about 4 days ago and it helped a little but I realized sometimes my lymph nodes swell up. When they do, it hurts a bit especially when I press it. There's one in the back of my neck, one on my left thigh near the knee and several under my belly. The ones in my belly that are swollen have been there even before my diagnosis, some people told me it's due to overweight (5'1" at 180lbs). My pubic bone area also started to have some pain yesterday morning and when I press into it, I can feel a small "lump". My oncologist also found a few cyst at the left side of my breast and yesterday I found another one at the front of my right breast. My next appointment with my oncologist is on Mar 28 (there's no vacancy any time sooner), I am just wondering if these are some of the side effects of my disease or I should go to another doctor for checkup right away? Thanks so much.

I am glad the Dr. site thinks it is unrelated.  I was going to mention that oftentimes the swelling of glands as you describe can be from a viral infection and take a long time to go away .. long after being ill sometimes!

Sorry you are going through this.  Do you have a primary care physiscian?  If you do, you may be able to get an appointment with you primary care physician sooner than March 28, 2007.  Your primary care physician can help you sort through these symptoms before you see the oncologist.

Please let all of us on this board know how you are doing.

My prayers are with you.
