Synthroid & Hunger Pains

by blueappaloosa, Aug 17, 2008 06:22AM
I was off thyroid meds for 1 year (no good reason here) and finally went back to the doctor after symptoms brought me to a standstill.  I just went back on Synthroid 2 weeks ago and so far have not noticed a real difference in my energy level.  I have noticed that once or twice a day I'll get hunger pains that seem bear size though and I've never experienced hunger pains like that before in my life.  It worries me as I had packed on some pounds when I was off the meds and don't want to keep going in that direction.  So far when I get the really bad hunger pains I grab a bottle of water.  Any one else notice symptoms like this?  Also, how long should I expect to wait before energy level is restored?

When you are consistantly hypothyroid your whole endocrine system slows down. Your food cravings diminish yet you pack on weight because your metobolism plummets to almost zero.   A simple meal can pack weight on when you are hypoT

Now you are back on meds which are increasing your metobolism and that is why you are getting the pains.

YOU ARE HUNGRY. but the trick is to eat the right foods to maintain and continue to lose unwanted pounds while your meds to it's real job.

Instead of me listing the appropriate eating habits again - which gets quite long. Please go to a search of either Dr. Barry Sears Zone diet or South Beach.

Both these diests concentrate on the insulin levels that burn fat instead of just dieting in general

These life long change of eating habits will help you feel much better and work with your condition to either maintain your weight or lose those extra pounds.
