Synthroid Doses

How much Synthroid is everyone taking?

Also, does anyone else have problems taking generic medications?

They just do not work for me.

Forgot to mention - I'm on generic levo - 75 mcg alternating days with 88 mcg + 5 mcg cytomel per day.  I'm finally at the "tweaking" stage.

Is that Free or Total T4? It should say on your lab report.  You should also ask for FT3 to see what your levels are, since FT4 and FT3 are really the most important numbers to go by in determining your dose.

Some of us with Hashimoto's need to have our TSH suppressed more.  Mine latest was only 0.03, but my FT4 and FT3 were almost where I want them.  I'm very luck to have an endo who does not go just by TSH or I would still be very hypo.

6hashi is right - some of us have a real struggle getting things under control.  I don't know how long you've been at it, but I'm right about 18 months and just now getting my FT3 and FT4 where I need them to be. It takes a lot of patience, which most of us don't have because we want to feel better right away, but unfortunately, for a lot of us, that doesn't happen.  We are all individual and meds affect each of us differently, so getting the right tests done each time, then getting your levels to a point that's right for YOU is the goal.

Hello ,
How long have you been taking the 125 mcg ?
Hashimoto is accompanied with struggling ,since your TSH might increase after getting it under control and then you have to increase your dose accordingly ,in the middle of this process you still feel not good for your thyroid does not functioning properly, bottom line ,be patient eventhough you are patient .

ps .check for the Free T4 and Free T3 !

feel well ,

Ok, I have blood work done consistantly. Here is what they have been for about six mo. Eventhough my TSH is normal, I am still struggling like I am not on any medications.

T4-1.21    Range .89 - 1.76

T-3 (uptake %) 29.2   Range 22.5 - 37.0

TSH .802   Range .400 - 4.5

TPO (Antibodies) 884  Range .0 - 34.9  HIGH

I had my ANA checked. It was normal. I also had a high C3 number.

Anybody else???

I have Graves, had RAI & Thyroidectomy (keyhole) june & Sept 2008.
My levels were stable for around 6 months until a few weeks ago when I went hyper from severe stress.
I was on 62.5mcg daily (yes a small dose as I am super drug sensitive) and am now on 62.5mcg and 50mcg alternating until Monday when I then take 62.5mcg 5 times a week and 50mcg 2 times a week.
Its calling 'tweaking' and even though I am a fraction HYPO in the TSH department, I feel good.
Some need a large dose..some dont.
Everyone is different.
Each time your symptoms change...get yr labs done to see if you need an increase/decrease.
Dont do it without labs not unless advised by your Doctor.

I have never taken generic either.

Hello ,
It's difficult to say why you don't feel well ,you should ask your endo to adjust your does according to FT4 and FT3 in addition to the TSH ,it also can take up to 3 months to start feel better ,you might need more/less than 125 mcg/day in order to know you have to have an endo and do blood test each 6 weeks .
Hope that helps ,

Hello ,
It is different for each individual !
It is a process that can take years, according to your FT4,FT3 and TSH levels .
Can you mention what disease you have and how much Synthroid you take ?

You should take your med with the same amount and at the exact same time on an empty stomach ,and for the med to start work , you shall reach the proper dose your body needs first .

Hi,

I take levothyroxine sodium 100 mcg, plus I also take dessicated thyroid 155 mcg. this is becuase dessicated isn't available in Philippines (only thyroxine) and so i have to take what I can get (I got my dessicated from Canada - but only 125 mcg and 30 mcg bottles, which is not completely enough.... so we added in the t4 to make up.

Works great for me this way.
