T3 8.9 in 8 year old what is right level?

Hi My daughter is 8 years old and her T3 has raised from 8.1 to 8.9 in 6 months. She has been re-refered to see a paediatric specialist but i would like to know what this all means. I am told this is high but is the range different for an adult and a child? She does not sleep well, always hungry and very irritable and aggressive to the point hard to control.

Thanks Donna

Hi Laura

I was told the other Thyroid tests were normal it was just the T3 and yes the Free T3 was high. When the GP saw the level of 8.1 he said she has overactive Thyroid and said we will test again and it had risen to 8.9 he then said she would have to be refered to the hospital as normal range could be different in a child. She catches every cold, bug etc going :(

Thank you for the reply!!

Donna :)

Did they run a TSH and Free T4 with this T3? And was this a Free T3 test?
If the Free's are high, then it can mean that she is hyperthyroid. First check and see if they ran these other tests.
They will probably run a test for autoimmune thyroid disease at the specialist. This could explain her symptoms. Hang in there Donna!  :)
