Your husband's FT4 looks very good, in fact, it may be even a little on the high side.  On the other hand, his FT3 is a little bit low relative to his FT4.  With his FT4 where it is, we would expect to see his FT3 quite a bit higher if he were converting really well.

It sounds like he's feeling much better...so glad to hear that.  It's quite possible that he might benefit from adding a direct source of T3 (Cytomel or dessicated) to his meds.  T3 is the active form of the thyroid hormones, the only form our cells can use.  When we don't convert properly, we can feel hypo no matter how good FT4 looks.  I'd ask my doctor about adding some T3 if I were you.  I'd also suggest that, if you do add T3, you decrease T4 a little at the same time.  The rule of thumb is to decrease T4 meds 25 mcg for every 5 mcg T3 you add in.

Some doctors don't like to prescribe T3 meds, so it's often difficult to find a doctor who will and who knows how to use T3.  Ask your doctor what he thinks about this.  If he's not comfortable, you may have to find another doctor.

Best of luck...I hope he keeps progressing!

Do you have recent labs to post?  Please include reference ranges as these vary lab to lab and country to country.  If we see those, we might be ble to make some more suggestions.

He should take his thyronorm on an empty stomach (most of us take it first thing in the morning) and then not eat or drink anything for half to one hour.  All other medications and supplements should not be taken within four hours of thyroid meds.

There is no special diet for thyroid disease.  Some of us avoid soy, lactose, gluten, etc. because they cause thryoid symptoms.  However, some of us eat whatever we want.  If he has a stomach problem, it's probably best to let that dictate what he can and can't eat at the moment.

Be sure to have his labs tested again in four to five weeks after starting thyroid meds.  It's very possible that he will need an adjustment in his dose at that time.  Keep in mind that many of us find that FT4 has to be in the middle of the range, and FT3 in the upper half of the range, before all our symptoms are relieved.  Make sure your doctor keeps increasing his meds until he feels well, not just until his labs are "in range".

Best of luck.  I hope he continues to improve rapidly.

I hope they started him on thyroid meds asap?!  Is he able to move around or is he very slow and sluggish?  Please make sure he gets medical attention right away....if the doctors aren't doing anything take him to the emergency room and let them start his treatment as soon as possible. That is my opinion of course.
Please keep us informed.  :)
