TSH level normal but anti-tpo and anti-tg really high

by angelina1xx, May 22, 2009 12:26PM
what does it mean when your TSH     1.20
but your                         ANTI-TPO    799
and                              ANTI-TG-     1832 is?

I have a history of Graves desease and currently off all medications. Sometimes I experience a lot of the symptoms but my tsh level fluctuates between 2.5 and 1.2.

In a person with normal thyroid function how much should TSH levels fluctuate?

It means you need more testing.
TSH is a pituitary test, not really thyroid, so you need more tests on the thyroid as well you should take a gander at the pituitary to make sure it is ok and reacting to the thyroid's situation correctly.

so does anyone know how much TSH levels vary in healthy individuals?

your variation is within the norm.  i wouldn't look at tsh too much.  look at free t3 and free t4 along with the tsh.  what are your free t4/free t3?

your antibodies are definitely high.  do you get your labs done regularly with your history of graves?  were you on thyroid suppressants?  did you have raiu?

i have regular blood work done....but they don't always check my freet3 and t4 levels.
I had PTU treatment for a month and took myself off of them because i felt really bad on them. THis was 3 years ago. Then in november last year my TSH lvl was 0.05.
So i did this alternative treatment that involved a lot of natural and faith lead therapy and now my test results have been normal except for my antibodies. I tried celenium in brazil nuts for 1 month and it brought anti=tg from 3600 to 1832.

I was trying to figure out if the fluctuations in my tsh levels were normal or indicative of something being wrong.

thanks a lot for your feedback

I have the same situation. My FT4 and TSH are normal but my Thyroperoxidase Antibody (think this is TPO) just skyrocketed from 614 to greater than 1000.

Have you found out anymore about this? I ran out of multivitamins with selenium. Maybe this is the reason.

Thanks,
